Ho everyone!
For all of you with modded PS2 (with the slim pstwo I think...not sure) + Harddisk + Broadband Adapter GT4(owned,rented...) + HDAdvance or HDLoader here are good news!
I got the Patch you need too convert the with ULTRAISO GT4 ISO File for playing from HD. GRANTURISMO4-PAL-HDD-PAR2-iml2iso4.exe and it changes the original ultraiso gt4 image with the PAR method. Fully automatic...just choose gt4 iso file.
The Image works 100% from HD...without any problem...for me!
But you can't play online via Xlink Kai.
So tell me where to upload it because I have no ftp or something like that
Send me an link where to upload the file!
P.S. I forgot ... no modchip upgrade necessary!

Okay....as i made in an earlier post about my friend having Gran Turismo 4 burnt....he was NOT lying...i have just borrowed it from his and it is a burnt WORKING copy! Now i have NO idea how this was done! I used isobuster and it just came up saying Track 1...so it was modified...and i explored the disk and it said it was only a 2.84GB or something...so i burnt it with Nero and Nero said my disk was too small to fit this game on...so it HAD to be dual-layered...now when i look at the disk...it looks almost real...but its not because i've seen the original GT4 disk and its not the same.
So the game WAS burnt on a DL disk...and it was burnt properly...the thing is...i want to explore this more using Apache...which i dont have...i signed up on a site but i still never recieved my e-mail to finish the sign up...if their is ANY way i can apache 2...to explore the FULL dual-layer disk...then i will see how this was modified but im guessing i have a mod chip and this bios is capable of booting DL disks...but mine is magic 8...so im not sure.

Right i've been thinking,a lot of people have said they've working dvd9 copys of this game from market's etc,and with the dms4,you can simply play a dvddecrypter copy of it without a patch,if you look at the read me file with the toxic bios,it says that the dvd-dl enable function basically removes the otp/ptp check, has anybody actually tried to just change the check in the appropriate file,or am i missing something and somebody's already tried it,there's definitely a piece of code in the ioprp300.img file, DvdDual_info: %02x.Layer1_LSN:%d opo_or_para ,is what it reads, and some people have said that they've burnt the two seperate layers on two disks which also works(with a bit of swapping!),i really need to back this up dudes!,my originals getting battered!

If the DMS4 and toxic bios IS only tricking the PS2 on the PTP/OTP issue, you need to read the document INF-8090 http://www.stanford.edu/~csapuntz/ide.html which is a 686 page (6MB) pdf document that thoroughly outlines the commands and data associated with the Mount Fuji specifications that relate to DVD Drives - it may be necessary to find an earlier version of this doc that is applicable to the DVD drive in the PS2 but this doc should be backward compatible. This is for those out there that can program PS2's or understand its source code (sorry I dont)- find the file/line of code - probably in ioprp300.img or one of the files it contains - that requests the disc track path information, it will request this information from the disc, and in the next line of code (maybe next few) and it will compare what it receives from the DVD drive, with the value for a PTP disc stored in the games code, change the value that the received information is compared to to match what the DVD drive sends back. I'd guess the received value and the stored value would AND'ed or SUB'ed - I dont know what instruction set the PS2 uses to compare values- to see if they are the same or not. There would also be a branch (BNE)or jump (JAL) shortly after this section of code that would either put the PS2 into and endless loop waiting for the correct value, or jump to an invalid address causing it to hang. The DMS4 and toxic bios could be detecting the request for the track path info, and probably only changes 1 bit of the response to the PS2 - ie 0=PTP 1=OTP - by pulling low or forcing high one of the pins on the DVD drive interface IC.Hope this is some help.

@Rudeboi: I've burned the disc on a DVD+R DL aswell and it works. The thing is you need to set the layer break exactly the same as the original. You need dvddecrypter to do this. If you have the original it's easy as dvddecrypter make not only a iso, but also an .mds file wich has information about the layer break. If you only have an iso you need to set the layer break manually.
See my post for more information:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/34/170159#981865
What this does is make an exact copy, only the disc will be OTP instead of PTP. So you need a modchip/bios that makes the PS2 read OTP discs and you're up and running.

When dvd-r dl are finally available they will be pre-mastered in otp format so I don't think they are going to be any help:(

Is the BT version playable? The one which has the size 2.5 or so. If not, can it be played by using HDL?

George22,
All the disks you put in your ps2 are otp.
I think you mean will a burned copy of a ptp disc work with your chip.
Apparently if your chip supports d/l media it should work.As long as you burn with DVD Decrypter.

Well, it's george77.Nevermind...
My ps2 can boot DVD+R DL Discs. So, if I can make an 1:1 copy of GT4, I will be able to play it??
Info:I copied GT4 with an old version of Alcohol 120% which didn't support DL dvd's and it booted, but stopped loading at the "Sony Entertainment ...bla...bla" screen...

Make sure your iso is over 5gb if its only 3.09gb(pal)then you only got layer 0(the first layer). The layer switch in DVD Decrypter can be set manually but I don't think it's neccessary as DVD Decrypter already puts the switch where it should be.
