I use SM 3.3 with Flip Lid with my slim ps2 and love it, never have had any problems.
In reading these forums, seems like different people have different problems with all types of mods and all versions.
my 2 cents anyway.

Fliptop and Swap Magic Definately... Easy to use and install Never had a problem....

Depends on the money you want to spend.
Flip top and swap magic would be the cheap way to go and would work just fine, i have those on my old V7
DMS4 Pro on the other hand is a bit more expensive, but that is what is in my Slim PSTwo and i love it.
Once you flash the chip with ToxicOS you will love it even more. The ToxicOS will allow you to load all of your back ups just like original, no more swapping.
It also detects what type of game it is PAL or NTSC and loads it correctly. I have some PAL games and they load up perfect on my PSTwo with the DMS4 Pro chip. But i would get it professionaly installed. I bought a pre modded system with the chip already installed and the ToxicOS already on board too.

i have a dms4 lite... after i put it in i have had no regrets, it has booted everything, patched all of my PAL games to NTSC and soon it is going to enable me to play dvd 9 games

and do swapmagic discs work with just magic switch or slim tool and why do you guys prefer fliptop?, or even my special homemade version of "slimtool" (made it for fun to see how the disc spinns with the cover off, it works!!)

and i found something on dms website about some bios upgrade or something, this is what readme says:

and lets say that i have made my own little version of "slimtool" (home made version). I know it works great because i have the cover open while the game is running and the disc is still spinning, i completely fooled the ps2 into thinking taht the cover is down, but is actually up.
so since i have that... all i need to buy now is swapmagic discs? and im up and running?

I don't have a DMS chip, but I do have a chip. There are some things I really like about a modchip over swap discs. The main thing is you can boot the burned game directly and don't have to swap anything. Also, there are some games that have to be rebuilt if you are using swap discs (Mercenaries for example) but not if you use a modchip.
The only real drawback is the installation. That was a real pain in the @ss. But you can buy one pre-modded or ship off your PS2 to get modded if you don't feel like doing the work yourself. It's really personal preference. I think you'll find that most people here use swap magic, so naturally you'll get more replies telling you to go with the swap magic.
Another thing, with the swap disc method, the flip top lid (unless you're using the new PStwo) will be a dead giveaway that you've done something to your PS2, so you'll have to hide it if someone comes over that you don't want to see it.

Oh your using the slimline is see, def buy the fliptop and swapmagic disks. it looks nice and its easier to use then slide tools and b/s like that.

well squizzle ur rite but y are you gonna go through all that trouble if you have a swap magic all u have to do is take off the front lid and thats it and the swap part is really easy. and plus its really cheap
