Hey wats up if anyone wants to get inside the .pak files.Nevermind TMPGenc v2.521.58.169 or above should work.I just looked at the PART2.pak file in winhex and check this out this is what it says:

&encoded by TMPGEnc (ver.2.521.58.169)

You should see some of the stuff in the PART2.pak file.At the very end of the file it has Suck my spinning steel,$#!%head! written like 100 times. It just keeps repeating itself, kinda crazy I thought.

L-Burna could it be that IOPRP.img file is checking during tha game for PART2.pak. For example where kratos has to climb the titans back. Meaning that PART2.pak is just a dummy file and that IOPRP.img file can be patched.

I was playing for 3 hours and i was at Athens Rooftop. So far so good. Now, tell me which part will the game freeze? Has anyone finished the game yet with the backup? Mine backed up at 4.16 GB. Played it for 3 hours and everything seems fine. Just had to guess how to fix everything and it worked. Btw, if you guys want the ISO, i could send it to you. See if it works on yours too. I know some of you were saying that you backed it up at 3.9 but mine was 4.16GB with 15 files. Am i doing something wrong? I hope not. I hope it will work until i finish the game.

Backing up God of War 101.
For Noobs like me?
ETA 26 - 35 mins to do everything and get it on a disk.

Thanks to Jizmak (everything was for Starwars on your thread)
Thanks to Hursty (and to whoever you got the thread from)

Programs needed:
Dvd Decrypter: http://dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download
Isobuster: http://www.isobusterdownload.org/isobuster_all_lang.zip
Cdvdgen: http://www.btinternet.com/~ps2rippininfo/tools/cddvdgen.exe

To whoever had this post in the first place, I give you props for that. But here is the complete walkthrough (for noobs) to backup God of War.

1) Copy The Ps2 Game Dvd To Your Hard Drive As An Iso Image.

A)Open DVD Decrypter.
B)In The Destination Area, Click On The Folder Icon To Choose Both A Name And A Storage Location For The Iso Image.
C)Click On Mode > Iso > Read.
D)Click On The Dvd Icon To Start The Process.
E)Wait Until The Process Is Finished Then Close Decrypter And Go To Step 2.

2) Extract The Files From The Iso Image.

A) Create A New Folder (name it God of War) On Your Hard Drive To Store The
Extracted Files.
B) Open Iso Buster And Click On File > Open Image File.
C) Navigate To The Iso File Created In Step 1 And Click On ?Open?.
D) Hold The Control Key On Your Keyboard And Left Click
Every File And Folder In The List.
E) Once All The Files Are Highlighted, Right Click On One Of Them And Click On ?Extract Objects?.
F) Navigate To The New Folder That You Created On Your
Hard Drive And Click ?Ok?.
G) Wait For The Process To Finish Then Close Isobuster.

3) Convert The Extracted Files Into 2 Bin Files.

A) Open Cdvdgen.
B) Select ?Create New Project? And Then Select ?Dvd-Rom
Master Disc?. Drag Cdvdgen To The Left Side Of Your
Screen.
C) Navigate To The Folder That You Created On Your Hard
Drive Back In Step 2 And Open It On The Right Side Of Your Screen.
D) Set The Width Of That Window So That It Is Only 1 File Wide. This Will Place The Files Into The Same Order As They Were On The Game Disk But You Should Check Them For Correct Order Just In Case.
E) Click On Edit > Select All.
F) Drag All The Files Into The Right Side Of Cdvdgen.
G) Look For A SCUS File And Write Down The Full Name (i.e. SCUS_973.99)And Then Click On The ?Volume? Tab In Cdvdgen.
H)Type SCUS Into The 1st Box Near "Disc Name"
I) Type All Of The Numbers From Your File Name, Without The Period, Into The 2nd Box (i.e. 97399).
J) Type Playstation For The Producer Name And Select The Appropriate License Area.
K)Click On "Rec...".
L)Select Your Desired Storage Location And Name The File Gow.Iml
M)You Will Get 2 Errors, Just Click Ok For Both. (same error twice)
(If You Get One Error Message, Then You Have To Download ?Wnaspi32.Dll? Nero.com/us/search.php" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://ww2.Nero.com/us/search.php then type in Wnaspi32.Dll in the search bar.
and Put It In Your Windows System 32 Folder.
N)The Recording Screen Will Pop Up, Click On File > Export Image And Save It On One Of Your Hard Drives (Not In A Folder) Name It Gow.Lst
O) When It's Finished, You Will Have 4 Files Named Gow.000, Gow.001 , Gow.002 and Gow.003
P)Close Cdvdgen And Go To Step 4.

4) Merge The Gow.000, Gow.001 , Gow.002 and Gow.003 Files Into A Single Iso Image.

The Easiest Way To Merge The Files Is From A Command Screen.

A)Click The Windows Start Button And Click On Run.
B)Type Cmd In The Box And Hit Enter.
C)Change The Directory To Match Where Your Gow.000, Gow.001 , Gow.002 and Gow.003 Files Are Stored.
Example- If They Are On The C Drive, Type Cd C:\ And Hit Enter.
If They Are On Another Drive, Type The Drive Letter With A Colon And Hit Enter.
D)Once You Have The Correct Directory-
Type Copy/B Gow.000 + Gow.001 + Gow.002 +Gow.003 Gow.Iso And Then Hit Enter.
E)When It's Finished You Will Have A New Iso Image Named Gow.Iso That You Can Now Burn In Step 5.

5) Burn The New Iso Image Onto A Blank Dvd.
I personally used Nero6.0 burned it at lowest speed and now im playing my backup. Flawless, until further notice.

6) If any questions, pm me.
Hope this thread helps.

Just curious guys. How big is your final rebuilt images after combining all four .LST files? I got a total of 4,116,120 kb. Games seems to be working fine, however, I havent gotten to the middle of the game yet where everyone says it freezes.

Will you stupid Noobies SHUT UP!... we know that the backup works for the first HALF of the game. About 4 to 5 hours into it. If you don't have any ideas, or suggestions as to burn the other half, or get a working backup that plays the ENTIRE game... then don't post on this thread. There are a million threads telling how to back up the first half of the game.

I think that sony has wised up and started using dummy files. If we could get that layer1 check removed, and replace part2.pak with a dummy file, it could possibly work.

Keep us filled in guys.

I haven't gotten to the part that freezes yet.. but has anyone tried getting to the next savepoint (on the original), then trying to load from the backup?

let me know if someone can try that. i'll try my best to get there tonight. I just rescued the oracle, so I don't think I'm that far away.

guys, a few times this question has been posted, but no answer.

so if we aquire the game, at its full size. (dvd9) and burn with DL Burner, will the game work?

cause i can just use DVD Decrypter then, and burn it on a Dual Layer disk...

waht do you guys think?

i came up with an idea, but havent tested it yet, as im near out of dvd-r's, what about burning the second layer with the img check file with it, so logically itll scan the img file an find that the second layer is there but only thsoe two files will exist on the disk, just the pak2 an the img check file, try that and see if anyone has any luck

just an idea, good luck if you try it

If we took the PART1.pak file and joined it with the PART2.pak file, the game wouldn't freeze. What I was thinking of doing is to join them together, and plug them on the first Layer 0,call it just PART1.pak .For Swap Magic peeps the only way to fix the size limit would be to downsize the videos in the game. The conclusion the game would read through the first layer all the way through since it would be burnt at OTP,and you could skip the second layer.Since PTP is only with the original pressed disc, this shouldn't apply to us.The files would have to be joined together though, because OTP only reads the first layer all the way through, then the second layer. On the second layer it has the part where everyone is freezing at,the rest of the game.I am sure they made it where it checks for that PART2.pak file while still reading the first layer.I know it sounds kinda weird right, but yeah if we could join all the .pak files it would work.Currently at the moment though there is no strong extractor yet.I hope Neness,Gnie, and Sonix hook us up,they are the best at making tools no lie.

what about using that console media patcher on the rebuilt iso, would that make the game fully playable, would we have to burn a second disk with pak2, or just patch it with cmp, then play, any ideas?

The C.M.P patcher v1.1 doesn't recognize the IOPRP.img for some reason. If you open it up it will just say IOPRP300.img and then have some kind of swirls right under it.It would actually have to be reconstructed with the second layer to be honest.Everyone has burners that write the image in at OTP,which means it reads the first layer all the way through, then the second layer.PTP is a style that reads simultaniously between the two layers. If we put joined the PART2.pak file with the PART1.pak file, keeping the name PART1.pak.The game should actually pick it up.Reason why is that OTP will read PART1.pak and PART2.pak without switching layers.I could try out some extracting programs to see if anything comes up,but not sure if we could extract all the files. The movies and the sound can be extracted from the .PAK files, but this is not all the files I bet.I will keep looking into it alright, but this is another case just like GT4.

This is probably a bit too simple, but a couple of people on elitetorrents and torrentleech claim that they can get past level four with a slight jump just by burning with Alcohol 120%. Anyone able to confirm this?
