Hi,

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner:

http://www.ricoh.com/drive/asia/support/download/mp5240a/

To check your what your current firmware is, visit this link: http://flashman.rpc-1.com/

Download the proggy, double click on the proggy, and it will tell you the answer...

Looks likes your the DMA for your burner is not on. To see if it's on, Right-click on "My Computer" and select "properties". Click on the 'Hardware' tab. Then click on "Device Manager" Scroll down to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" Click on the plus sign to browse. Right-click on "Primary IDE Channel". Then click on the 'Advanced Settings' tab. If "Transfer Mode" has 'PIO only'. Switch it to "DMA if available".

Follow the steps again, but for 'Secondary IDE channel', also

Restart the computer. Check to see if DMA is turned on.

I checked my DMA and that is alright. I try to download the firmware but for some reason it's not pulling up the RICOH MP5240a. In the target device. Instead it has cdrom 0: programloader 701.31. I can't change it either. Does anyone else have any suggestions.

not the best choice out there. Memorex. and to the last person's post. I did download the firmware. The firmware won't find my player. I can't figure out why it won't. I keeps saying removed disk. I can burn copies using Nero. But for some reason using Shrink to burn to Nero is not working and that is why I get that error message that I posted. Yes I even reinstalled Shrink

Memorex. Which format? Your burner can only burn + format only.
I couldn't locate the mfg code on your report, therefore a firmware issue or hopefully you are not using the dash format.

Also do as thugs posted, uninstall your primary ide controller/reboot. Do the same for secondary ide controller/reboot.Your report listed DMA off for your burner. 6 burn errors in a row can change it to pio-safety reasons. It can also flash back and forth,i've seen it a few times in these threads. That may be why you can't get the firmware update to take hold.

that was the problem. I did what was suggested about uninstalling the IDE and sure enough it changed from PIO back to DMA and now I am burning again. THanks. Now for the firmware. I downloaded everything but when I bring the program flash up. It picks up cdrom program loader but I have a RICOH MP5240A burner. Why can't it find the Burner. I try and run it anyways and I can;t a not the same source error. Any suggestion?

Go to Start>My Computer and right click on it >properities>hardware>Device Manager> you will see IDE ATA Controllers> go to Secondary IDE and right click it>uninstall

Now re-boot and Windows should find it properly

masterpkg ,
This is what I want you to do.
1. Go to the Nero website and d/l the Nero Clean tools and clean Nero completely off of you computer
2. re-boot
3. D/L Nero again but do not D/L INCD
4. Get rid of the Memorex blank Media, Use Verbatim

You might also try to remove INCD by using the ADD/REMOVE Program function. When you click on it you will now want to modify the Program and remove INCD

Dma is not on for:
CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a a347scsi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off

Last address to be written: 2290223 (508:56.23, 4473MB)

Reduce your target size to about 4360 mbs. That will prevent a lot of issues.

Recorder: RICOH DVD+RW MP5240A, Media type: DVD+R

I'm go along with creaky, This should give you the exact mfg code. It's puzzling how you said it failed, but both logs said successful.

How do you mean Failed? Can those failed backups be viewed on your pc using the burner drive to play them instead of your dvd-rom drives?

i looked into this for a while the other night as i often ponder what this is, on my machine. Funnily enough after some searching i was still none the wiser, so just removed it thinking it's either some pseudo-pretend-made up device, or something to do with my USB enclosures, but it reappeared upon reboot. So i left it alone and still need to do some searching. I notice it on a lot of ppl's Nero logs though..hmmmm..strange

Hey creaky, I'm still learning the Nero burn reports. I just look for a few things out of the ordinary.

Masterpkg, I got off track and forgot this is in the DVD Shrink forum. To simply change that backup target size:
Open up dvd shrink
Edit
Preferences: Click on DVD-5 and scroll till you get to custom.
Enter 4360
OK.

That's where I always keep mine even though I use very good media. Just saves on possible issues down the road.

The only time I ran into a firmware issue, my I/O magic wouldn't recognize maxell -4x yellowtops-ritek go4.My backup/single drive pc would spit them out during the lead-in phase. They did successfully burn after the firmware update, but the compatability sucked on my main pc and stand alone players. My lite-on dvd-rom wouldn't recogize the + backups from this I/O burner even after I book-typed them to dvd-rom.A new benq 1620 took care of that issue.

That's why I asked masterpkg to try those presumed bad discs in the drive that burned them. If playing them through a separate dvd-rom drive, the compatability may be the issue. Also try those backups in some other stand alone players.
That's still buggy on not Nero not recogizing the mfg code and still burning successful??? Even trying to booktype them to dvd-rom,according to those logs?

@saugmon - i'm exactly the same with the Nero logs;
it is bizarre about the mfr code not showing up, and it's a new version of Nero too (i think there's a 6.6.0.8a out but can't remember details in .8a as i'm staying put at 6.6.0.0 anyway). And i'm not budging lol !!!
