Here's my problem, I am sorta of a newbie because I dont know that much about burning other than my experiences with Shrink and before that DVD Xpress & Platinium (yuck). I have been reading this board for almost a year now though. Maybe ScubberPete can help me out! As you can tell DVDX and my burner just didn't get along (which was too bad for the cost and all). See I have a crappy "free" burner from Dell, and well, I seem to have periodic problems with all my burning.
About 6 months ago I was turned on to Shrink and Nero. Have been burning left and right... most of the time, and what I mean by that is, sometimes esp if the movie is a large one, I continuously get the same error. I have wasted a lot of discs believe me! I also have used great media like TDK, Sony ( I like them) and others like Verbatim and HP. It doesn't seem to make a difference what I using currently I will still have problems with the same movie. Ok so enough of the novel. Here is my error:

Not very good media. Most likely the problem.

There is a C111 firmware update for your writer.

This is the problem.

The size of the movie should not effect your burning.
The size is adjusted by Shrink to fit on a 4.7Gb disc.

Ok I admit this disc was crap (HP) and I can't find the firmware for my driver anyway online because its from a Dell but not makde by Dell.

However the last part where you state that "this is the problem", well, I'm kinda of a newbie and I don't understand what the code means. Does anyone know what the illegal key code means?

Edit > Sorry I linked to the search results but it will not work. Search the new link for GCA or 4040n. Do not use GCA-4040n. C113 looks to be the lastest update.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

You see this error most with poor media.

Run a search on the keywords and the usual problem is said to be media. What is the exact problem, I have yet to see answered.

P.S.
Have you tried burning with DVD Decrypter. Nero has a nice software suite but I have noticed many here who have difficulties using it. Plus you will need it on the new Sony releases to break the encoding.
