Oh man, I'll hit you up for one of those!
hahaha
Well I would think that there are teams out there w/ atleast some info. on the specs of the PS3's. I mean, they do have connections on getting stuff you know, and I'm sure that the info. they get comes at a high price from somebody on the inside (just a speculation from my part!). So if I had to take an educated guess, I would say research is already being done on making PS3 chips.

icehawk,
if you were as half as smart as your username claims, you would know that this topic is basically to discuss about the modchip for the ps3. I am aware there arent any currenrtly but was wondering about them (if anyone has any info on any UPCOMING ones)

as nobody apart from sony knows how a ps3 motherboard is set out and woirks how do you expect anybody to have any serious plans to make a modchip yet.
Obviously one will be made at some point but nobody even knows what copy protection is used on ps3 games so at this point any plans to make the chip will all be just an idea in somebodys head.
At this point even i could say i plan on making a modchip for a ps3 and my idea would be no different from anybody elses.
I understand what your trying to say with this post but its a bit like asking 'does anybody know what the last boss will be on metal gear solid 6'

pro`noob, you can't say that nobody besides the makers behind PS3 have info. on the system, unless you can prove this somehow. I am sure information has leaked to some people in the mod chip industry, but who knows....

Well what about IBM and Toshiba there working along side Sony on the processor so they would have to know the mainboard specs. Then there's the game makers they would need to at lest know some of the hardware details so they would know how to make launch games for the system. Not to forget Nvidia are they not helping with the graphics or something.

you have to admit though, Sony is been very tight lipped though. I guess they want to be all the buzz at E3

the price of dual layer is still so expensive. Imagine bluray. The cost might keep some ppl from backing up there games.

The one thing you might keep in mind though is that just because it supports bluRay doesnt mean the games will be on bluRay disks

well if some info is leaked out on ps3 mainboards etc i dont think it would be enough to make a serious modchip design from at the moment. i think you would need an actual ps3 to test on but i know for sure once ps3 is out it wont be long before a chip is made.
and if sony can stop pirates by using bluray discs then im sure they will try that.

got to agree with deezp1 just because the ps3 will be able to utilize the technology, doesnt mean there going to use it straight away
Sony have done something with this games console, that they didnt with the ps2, they have looked into the future to see what might eventually take off and BluRay discs will when the price comes down

If PS3 has a HDD... shouldn't it be better to use something like HD Loader rather than an actual modchip?

With games going to be $59.99, and the cost of blank blu-ray media selling at $26 each, it would be much more cost effective if there were a way of playing the games off of the hard drive. I guess we'll wait and see.
