PS2 has CD and DVD games, PS3 games should be on DVD or Blu-ray, CD games sounds too small. The PS3 looks like it has many options to make some kind of Modding, come on were smart, some chips and wires. Just think in 6 years PS4. Look forward to stay up for days play PS3!!!

We can only speculate about ps3 modchips but one thing is for sure where there is money there are ways to do things if a person makes stuff
there are ten geniuses who can break stuff.

Imdragon is right, the games will be on BLu-ray and DVD's. & sont will no doubt want to beat microsoft with the harddrive thing this time around.

But the specs say it's a 2.5 inch hd, (laptop hard drive) thats removable :S. Whether it comes standard out of the box or you'll have to fork out for one no-one knows yet, but imagine this, with games being up to 54 GB (dual layer blu-ray) how big will our hard drives need to be b4 we can hold a decent collection of games in our ps3's! :O :O :O

its scary though int it, im sure the technology will advance like you say lets just hope the PS3 can be craked quicker then it took the ps2, and that the disks are not outragously over charged when they come out like DVDs used to be, i remember the days when it would cost ya a £10 for 3. im very supprised that dual layer disks havent droped yet aswell, i refuse to pay nearly £3 for a balnk disk.....

I wouldnt be two concern about backup media, we've all seen how the cost of Dvd recorables dropped dramatically since they where first released. Id expect these new media to be ridiculously priced when they first appear but to drop gradually till they are so cheap that back up be very efficent. Id also expect to see a mod ship developed soon after the launch of the ps3, and id expect them to have developed to a high standard after the first year.

After all how long did it take for the ps2 to get modded, (actually thats a good question, anyone got an answer)

All we can do is wait and see.

There's no chip out for the PSP and how long has that been out? The PS3 isnt even out yet, doesn't even have a release date, and probably still isn't in its final stage. I'd be just a little surprised to see the date of availability for the chip relative to the release date of the PS3 in negative days.

As for anything planned... no, they aren't going to make a chip for the PS3 just to spite us, nah nah. Course they're gunna make a chip.

You are right and wrong. There is no chip for the PSP, but there is already a boot/swap method of hacking it and it is already supporting GBA, NES, and SNES games. so yes it has been Modded.

About prices of blu-ray burners and media...:

All of the prices you may have seen are completely worthless to most of us at the moment. They are mainly in Japan, and it is cutting-edge technology right now. The prices are extremely high, but it will be nothing like this later. When first released to the public here, it may be a bit on the expensive side, but eventually the Blu-Ray blank disc prices are expectected to drop within 10% of the prices of blank DVDs now. That is not much more expensive at all. So, backing up games will very likely be possible for PS3 just as it is now for PS2, although we may have to wait a while after the PS3 is released for this to be possible... maybe a year or so, but who knows how long the life cycle of the next generation systems will be? PS2 has lasted what... about 5 years now? i'm not sure. The PS3 could possibly go for 5 to 8 years or more. Who knows? Waiting a year for modifications to be developed and prices on Blu-Ray recorders and media to drop will not be all that bad in the long run.

About the Blu-ray discs game possibilites...:

Most games will probably just be using single-layered blu-ray discs, which are roughly 25GB. No doubt, there will probably be a few games who use double-layered discs, but they will most likely be few and far between. Whoever said that they won't necessarily be using blu-ray discs is partly right and wrong. There will be games that are on dvd discs, probably dual-layered dvd discs, but most games on the market will be blu-ray discs because of all of the extra space. But you shouldn't expect to see massively long single player games. I highly doubt you will see any games getting anywhere near the 50GB limit. I'm sure that there will be games that are bigger and longer than we have now, but not to that extent. Most of all that extra space is going to be for High Definition resolution gameplay and game videos. HD is where technology is going to be focused. Technically, some developers still could push the limits and make gigantic games many times the length of the longest adventure & rpg games on the PS2, but it is unlikely. However, we can always hope for the best! Personally, I would like to see games with tons of extra "Modes" in the options screens which would be almost like separate games in themselves, or PS3 games including old versions of whatever series the game is, like how Tekken 5 has the first 3 Tekken games. This kind of thing would be very possible with all of that extra space if any developers really wanted to make full use of the possibilites of such enormous disc space. Personally, I would like to see all of this space used on bigger, longer games packed full of tons of extra bonus features, but unfortunately much of the extra disc space will be devoted to high definition in most cases. Is high definition really all that impressive? I don't have an HD TV, and I don't think that I've ever seen anything in HD before.

Blu-Ray can hold a max of 200GB eventually. So games don't have to worry about space. For games to pull that much data on the PS2 would halt the system to a crawl. But since everything about the PS3 as compared to the PS2 is improved, its efficiency of use of large amounts of data will also increase proportionaly. Think of the NES trying to use the amount of data stored in a PSX CD. It couldn't handle it, but the PSX itself can. As the system improves, so does its data managment. I'm sure a 200GB Blu-Ray will be to the PS3 as a Dual Layer DVD is to the PS2. That's just my take.

I know we will see the day when a game console will use 200 Gigs, as standard but right now compaired with our 4.7 gig standard, thats just mind-blowing. I understand that we have come a long way from the NES, or even the PS1 in more recent years. In term of space and graphics, it will be interesting to see what the future holds.

If you consider the increase in disk size, its is hard to believe todays drives would be able to process the information contained on such disks without seriously stunting the machines, but as disk technology advances so will processors, and with a substained proportional advancedment, it will fell like nothing has changed at all.

i wonder when we'll accually see a modchip for the ps3. glad i have a launch model.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Well for those who havent tried it yet, the ps3 will probably be modchip free. because it was announced last year that the ps3 was supposed to be region free. but it isnt, i tried playing my PAL ps2 game and the ps3 doesnt come with an error it simply states that im using the wrong region. now, if someone knows how to program they could make th ps3 region free.

Have there been any new mention of PS43 modchips being developed yet?
If so when, and where?
