after i rip the dvd to my harddrive then open disk with shrink then during the backup disc stage i get the crc error what does that mean and what can i do to stop it

CRC errors are cyclic redundancy check errors. This error is usually caused by scratches or a dirt on the original disc.

When Shrink encounters some of the newer copy protections it will give a CRC error.

Sometimes no damage is apparent on the disc and it does not have the newer structure copy protection.

Solutions for that have been to use DVD Decrypter to rip, setting it to ignore read errors, also just returning it for a replacement works in the case of corrupted files.

CRC is done during the read portion to ensure the data is not corrupted. Basically the burner sends a "math problem" to the surface of the disc and expects to get a specific answer back. If the "answer" is incorrect, the CRC error is generated.

Try ripping with Decrypter and see if it can get past the bad spot.

i did heres my steps.....1.)rip with decrypter in file mode 2.) open disc with shrink 3.) backup disc with shrink-during this process at 50% is when it messes up always

You need to remove the original disc from your PC after ripping with Decrypter.

Here is what you did:

You ripped the disc with Decrypter...Good, that placed the DVD files on your computer's hard drive.

Then you opened Shrink and selected "Open Disc"!

What that did is simply opened the disc in Shrink and you re-ripped the thing, getting the same error.

You need to select "Open Files". Do not select "Open Disc".

Decrypter apparently worked correctly so you should have a set of video files on your PC.

still didnt work it messes up at 50%

I guess you're not meant to have it. Shouldn't be any different but have you tried dragging the iso to shrink? Does it stop analysing at 50% or does it stop shrinking at 50%?

ok here is the resolution
MOVIE
Smokey And The Bandit Pursuit Package
This movie has Part 1,2 on one side and part 3 on the other side of disc.
I made a copy of part 3 with menus and all.
I came across a problem at the very very begining of part 2 which is the part i had trouble copying so i then copied part 1 with no menus.
Next, unfortunatly i re-authored the dvd to start right after the part where the scratch was or whatis equivalent to a scratch.
I now have all 3 movies which was my goal.

I'm glad you got it! I did hear about using another ripping program called IsoBuster...It is another one of those programs I have but have not used!

I saw a thread a while back and some folks were really saying good things about it. Supposed to really work well with CRC error discs.
