I have owned this AOpen DUL-1608/AAR burner for a couple weeks and things were working fine. I have tried all methods involving DVD shrink (with decryptor, nero, iso, etc.). All of these methods I have tried within the last two weeks seeing which worked best for me, and which seemed to have the most reliability. It really didn't matter... until yesterday. The shrink analysis is now taking forever (about an hour, when before it was 15-20 minutes), and if I wait that out, the burning process will take over an hour as well at 4x. I know this isn't right... I've read through countless forums adjusting cables, and jumpers which has done nothing for me. One other thing that is happening is my burner is changing speeds constantly while burning. Speeds up... slows down... speeds up... etc. I'm computer literate, so I know this isn't supposed to happen. Something tells me the same solution will solve both problems, but I don't know where to go.

Appears that your computer may have reverted to PIO mode - this will slow your times considerably and cause bad or incomplete burns.

You will need to enable DMA mode - type enable DMA in the search button at top of this page.

Also ensure that you are using quality DVD media.

I have already gone through that step. I have also changed my I/O cable and checked all jumper settings. I just defragged and did a sweep with spy sweeper. I am about to try again and see if anything has changed...

No change. I looked at the DMA mode, and in my secondary IDE channel under device 0 (which should be my burner) it is set to DMA if available, but the current transfer mode is PIO. It is also blacked out so I cannot change it.

idlehands,
If it is stuck in PIO then Windows OS has found conflicts. Suggest you try a registry cleaner to clean up any conflicts in the registry ( google for a free one or a free trial offer). After that uninstall by right clicking on the secondary IDE channel and re-booting to see if Windows now has it in DMA
