herrick,
You probably are in PIO Mode instead of being in DMA Mode. Go to Device Manager> IDE/ATA Controllers and expand it> Now you will see Secondary IDE Channel> Right click and got to properities then click on Advanced Setting and click on that and see if DMA Mode is present under current transfer mode. If not go back to Secondary Channel and right click the secondary channel and uninstall the Channel. Now re-boot and Windows ahould find the channel and install it properly after re-boot

If you are using XP go to Start> Right click My Computer> Click Properities> click Hardware and then you will see Device Manager. Then follow the instructions I gave you previously

herrick,
If you are in DMA that is good. Now in using Shrink do you have the quality enhancements enabled? If so that might be the reason it is taking so long.
While we are at it what are the computer's Specs. Need the OS you are using, CPU speed, Burners name and model # and are the burners internal or external

Herrick

borhan here. I just read your thread and i have had the samy problem using DVD Shrink.

I recommend DVD Dycripter it is much faster and it has the same good quality and is mainly the same thing as DVD Shrink just faster.

U can dowload it from Afterdawn too.

I hope that helps and makes thing easier and quicker

ciao

naw, i'm SP2, have mcafee viruscan on 24/7 and the internet. However i don't surf web pages during the actual burn process as it usually causes the buffers in Nero to go mad, ie too much hard disc activity during the burn

herrick,
Dual layer or dvd-9's are usually commerical movies although there are some DVD-5's that are also commerical movies. It states if it is a DVD-9 or DVD-% on the movie jacket. Normally you buy DVD-5's in the store as the DVD-9's are a little too expensive for most people at this time. Most of the commerical movies are not burned but pressed together and fused

herrick ,
Your question about " Enable overlapped I/O- this may increase ripping performance" depends alot on your system. I'll give you hopefully the $.50 explanation. Your program talks to the computer and the computer speaks to the burner buy sending kernels of info. It sends and waits for an answer then re-transmits the nest kernel over and over again. When you overlap you are not waiting for the kernel to be returned as it is being kept in the buffer. Even the Shrink site states this probably will not speed you up. This command is mainly used for servers that have a whole lot of memory and then they can support alot of hits and still operate properly
