xbox softmod help needed.

ok guys heres the story, i have a xbox, i have brought an action replay kit which has the memory card, usb lead, i have splinter cell game, the origanal, now i need help using all this to change my boxes software so i can play my backups. could some body direct me to a really good guide and post other tips to help.

? 007 Agent under Fire: When you're at the main menu of the game, select "Load Mission" and then highlight "Xbox HDD". Press A to boot the Installer.
? MechAssault: When you're at the main menu of the game, select "Campaign" and then highlight "Run Linux". The information below should be shown when highlighting this, if so press A to boot the Installer. If not, your version of MechAssault is too new (the exploit was patched in later releases). Controls: Normal Difficulty: Regular Current Level: Going Down Hard
? Splinter Cell: When you're at the main menu of the game, select "Load Game" and then highlight "Linux". Press A to boot the Installer.
OK, now we?re ready to start Softmodding your Xbox.
6. Use the "Create C Backup" option to backup your C drive. To back up the Eeprom you'll need to use the Evolution X dashboard. The Eeprom backup is stored at C:\Backup (this can't be changed unfortunately) so please remember this.
7. Install the Softmod. Please note this deletes the MS Dash from C Drive, hence why you have been told to use the backup feature.
8. Install what dashboard you wish to use. Unfortunately due to lack of space I can only put Evolution X and UnleashX in this package, I hope that is good enough. You have the choice to install the dashboard to either C or E Drive.
9. Shut down your Xbox, then restart it, remove the disc, and close the tray. If this has worked like it should, you should see your choice of dashboard (either EvoX or UnleashX). Please note if you boot your Xbox and leave the DVD Tray open it will take you back to the menu where you installed your Softmod.
10. If you want to put the MS Dashboard back on your Xbox, you'll need to put MS Dash 5960 on your Xbox. This comes standard with Xboxes 1.6 and higher, so older Xboxes will need to upgrade. The easiest way to do this (once the box is softmodded) is to use my Auto-Installer Deluxe to delete the files from C Drive and install the latest MS Dash. Note: when this is done you'll have to repeat steps 6 to 9.
This was taken from the SID tutorial from the AID Bundle.
I strongly recommend that you don't use The AID(Auto Installer Deluxe) bundle because it seems to be a pain an overall pain in the ass. I suggest just using the www.Codejunkies.com website for a game save that does the same thing. I used Mechassault game so I can't tell you which game save to use. But Just remember, BACKUP YOUR XBOX before you do anything. There will be an option. Use it.

I would prefer anything else from the code junkies website. SID v2 seemed to give me a lot of trouble. Who knows I might of had a faulty version or something.

alright I have action replay and i downloaded softmod installerdeluxe and you guys just say to drag the zip file into the pc data base but ive looked and looked and there is no zip file

i just got itools downloaded to try it and it has a zip file but my main problem is the action replay says its an unvalid game save.

ok, when your memory card is conected to the pc, does it show up in the action replay software? also what files are you trying to send to the memory card?

IF you cannot used your Memory card or not enough please go buy new one. do not buy from Original XBox, Try to look and search from EBAY 64 MB cost only $19 or more cheape right now.
If you have 8 MB is still not enough anyway.

look can some one explain the whole c drive and all the stuff.
and is it true that if u soft mod you will be banned for like a year.
i just downloaded linux and now what do i do.
i think i get some of this stuff but expain slowly and tell me what every thing means.

Banned from what? XBL? No, your eeprom is banned forever. I wouldn't even try it.

hey 87x when i did all of the stuff for the modding i wasn't allowed to access anythign anymore. when i go to troubleshooter it comes up in like 5 diff. languages and im not allowed to access live anymore. without a disk in the drive i can't go past the screen with the big X on it and the microsoft written on it. can u help me out because i really think i screwed my xbox up.

Yea, you did.. Just go back in through whatever game you used to softmod , load the save game exploit, and restore your backup of "C:". You did make a back up, right? If not then your fucked. Also, look around for different save game exploits that do the soft modding. Some of them let you install to "D:"(I think thats the right drive). This makes it alot safer because you aren't messing with your "C:" drive. Anyway, the problem most people have when installing the softmod and not being able to get on live is the fact that when you install the soft mod it changes the settings on your xbox internet configuration. You have to go manually go into the settings then to connections, or whatever the internet option is called, and change it from "static" to "DHCP" (I think, there are ony two options here so its either "DHCP" or "Dynamic". I forget the word they use). Then go into your Xbox live trouble shooter, go into those options and change the ip address to automatic. Same with the other catagories as well.
Depending on what you want the softmod for depends on if you should keep it or not. What I did was softmod, FTP'd to my xbox, change out the files that I wanted, then restored back to the original. Anything that isn't a system change will stay after you restore.

hey on splinter cell i did evreything you told me to do but in the main menu it doesn't say load so i go to start game and it says checkpoint and levels for the linux file then when i go to checkpoints it says i need to call customer service and when i go to levels it just freezes and goes to white. someone please help i'd really appreciate it. thanks

ok, i need help
--im using a SanDisk micro 256mb usb to transfer the files
--i also have an adapter for my xbox(hooks into contrler port with a female usb on the other end.
--i have tried about 20 different programs for mechassault
--i do have the original version
--But every time when i plug the usb port in at my dashboard(xboxlive enabled) it says that the memory unit is corrupted and erases it.
--i have never seen the "run linux" at the mechassault campain or in the memory tab at my dashboard.
--every time i plug it into my computer it makes me format it.
--i can not put any new files on to my usb without my computer formatting it. i use windows 98 or xp not sure.
--i downloaded action replay from the net, so i have the software and the program with all the files but none of the hard ware.
--i am very good at using mIRC. i have that figured out. i fairly understand how to use FlashFXP. But i am able to use it.
--i have deleted all of my original MA saves from my xbox harddrive.
--when i run campain i only see the profile for "mechwarrior" nothing about linux.
Is there a certain way im suppose to turn or restart my xbox so my usb isnt erased? Or am i suppose to wait for my xbox to format the usb, if so HOW LONG?

I have recently used the linux installer with mechassault and all is fine except on thing. When i boot the box up with the tray open it goes back to the initial mod screen instead of my unleash x dashboard. Although it is a good feature is there any way to make it so that when i turn it on via opening the tray that it will still go to my unleash dash? Just curious.
