Go into device manager, try disabling your dvdrw and the IDE channel the dvdrw is on, one at a time. Are the buffer levels cosistant or bouncing from low to high?

Since this is the newbie area and I don't think a new thread is warranted, can someone tell me why Adams printout shows the same starting and ending sector numbers?Or are they irrelevant.
My logs show different start and end numbers and Adams log indicates that the burning time will be 28 mins.
Quote:
Starting Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 30000 h (DVD-ROM, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW)
End Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 30000 h

Does this mean that this forum is over? Why no more thread's?

What I did try is going into my system configuration utility and in the general tab I change my start up too diagonistic start up and then rebooted I went into task manager and hardly had any applications running thinking that this would improve my ram (?) I tried burning a disc but again 60 minutes later I am in the same situation.

No, I didn't mean to imply that I think the subject is closed, just that I would like to know why your log indicates the same start and end locations which contradicts my logs.I don't know if the point is relevant, but since I am a newbie I want to have the point cleared up with the help of the grizzled veterans :)

@attar - don't worry about those parts of the log, you're looking too hard :)

look at the way i and the others attacked the Nero log, there's not usually much more to it really.

will address Adamc2326's questions in a moment.. i'm slow so have to look a couple times..

@attar - right, post your logfile if you like, we can attack it.

@Adamc2326 - we could have a go at looking at the msconfig processes, you could post a screenshot or something, but you have a burner that's effectively 2yrs out of date, not really very much memory for the task you're trying to do.

you could post your own pictures - i do this the same way, but i copy/pasted this from one of the moderators' posts -

Step 1: push ctrl + PrintScreen (above the insert button)

Step 2: Open paint .. click start -> programs -> accessories -> paint

Step 3: push ctrl + v

Step 4: crop your image. I crop what I want to show -> cut it -> open new -> paste it. Crop only what you want to keep

Step 5: save as jpeg

Step 6: Host the jpeg here: http://imageshack.us/

lol. ca you redo it with the processes using most memory, sorted from the top, ie click on the 'mem usage' column so the memory hogging processes are at the top of the pic...

@Adamc2326 - pls redo the first two images as i need to identify the processes that are MOST memory hungry. click on the mem usage column until the larger processes are at top (ie processes with the biggest numbers!), you've almost got there, the processes you showed were using the least memory

@Adamc2326 -i can't see anything to get rid of there (processes). i think we should revert to the logfile suggestions for now, ie -->
Quote:
Basically i'd update the 4300MB limit, update Nero and think about the firmware update. In that order...
and of course i need some help off someone re the disks, they could well be a factor too....

I would try some better media. ritek G03's are questionable. Medium grade, average, budget media.

Hi Creaky

Thank you so much for spending so much time on this, in your last two comments you have mentioned my discs. I am taking you are talking about the dvd discs I am using to burn on? If so I have recently changed my type of disc and am now using imation dvd-r 8x compatible 4.7gb - 120min.

Could changing my discs cause a problem? I am trying to think back but I can not remember if when I changed discs that it started taking twice as long to be truthful never really gave it a thought.

nooooooo, not Imation. Ah well, let's do a dvdinfopro check onn one of those Imations in case there's an outside chance they're not *cough* utter rubbish *cough*
:)
No worries about helping, it doesn't take too long at all.

Now i'll cross my fingers about the media code for the Imations.....

soz, thought one of us had mentioned how to do it before.

download dvdinfopro (free, pick the one with adverts) and do a media info check (2nd icon from top left of dvdinfo. paste the details here. Imation unfortuantely, like Memorex, are everywhere, hence why ppl buy them thinking they must be good. But they use widely differing manufacturers such as CMC, thus nasty quality discs that are barely good enough for data never mind movies. Also have a quick look at the 2nd link in my signature for more Imation info.
