Recently the video preview window used for checking video file contents has gotten glitchy. It worked fine for several months, but recently if I want to preview a file to see if it is worth keeping or not, the video preview doesn't work properly. Specifically, when a file is selected and I try to use the preview window, I use the mouse to grab the progress indicator, and try to preview the video by speeding through it, but the indicator will only jump to a single frame after a long pause instead of showing a fast forwarded stream. It's frustrating because it did work properly and I haven't changed anything (knowingly) that should affect this. Any ideas?
Do you have anything running in the background now that you didn't have before? If so, do an msconfig from the start/run on the desktop and uncheck anything you don't need so it's not starting when you boot up. Also, if you're multi-tasking, don't. Holla back.
Thanks for the suggestion. I don't multitask when running shrink, so that's not a problem. I'll close all running applications and then try the video preview to see if that fixes the problem or not. Will let you know how that works out.
Your hunch was correct. First I tried YOBUZZB's suggestion and closed all running applications and then checked the video preview window, but no change. Then I downloaded DirectX 9.0 and installed it - and the preview window is working again!! I guess version 8.1 must have gotten AFU somehow. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
