Hi there,

Please do not use all caps in your messages, it's considered shouting :)

Here's a site with several guides ---> http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/

Here also --> http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/

There's a lot of information on those 2 sites.

If you have specific questions, Im sure someone has the answer.
Generic questions like, how do I use this software ?

We usually suggest reading guides and try out the software, look up all the options, and run it a few times.

Then it's much easier to answer specific questions...

When someone has problems, errors, we usually ask details like:
What DVD are you trying to rip/burn ?
What software are you using ?
What version ?
Give us the exact error...
When it's burning errors, we usually ask to provide a full burn log (Nero or VSO CopyToDVD). This way we know what you are trying to do, and we see the exact error, it makes it much easier to trouble shoot.

Thks for the websites. I'm new and raring to try out this dvd burning thing as i hv quite a lot of dvds to backup. The depiction of DVD Decrypter and shrink are very good and usefull for newbie like me.

At the moment i only succeeded ripping my dvds into mpeg-2 files and burn it into SVCD using a software called Xilisoft. The movie that i burned was very good though it needed 3 cds to contain a cartoon that runs around 90 mins only.

My ripping into mpeg-1 did not went well as i burned it into normal VCD produced jerking motion ie. not very smooth.

My ripping into AVI also seemed to produced bad output files though, maybe i'm not sure abt the various concepts on the output file specs as i'm very new in this.

So I'm eager venture the decrypter and shrink sofwares later.

Thks again.

And when you guys have digested cougar_ii's info there, have a quick browse thru the last 2 links in my signature, only because they flesh out some of the common problems that occur when people start out with those 2 (fantastic) programs

edit- oh and look thru the 2nd link too as it gives some opinions on media choices, or more to the point, media not to choose using!

Thks to cougar_li's mentioned sites, I'd managed to burn my 1st copy of DVD movie without major hitches. No plastic coaster. Score 1-0.

I'm on LGA775 P4 3.0ghz 512mb ram wif LG DVD RAM writer. I used the DVDcrypter and Shrink to burn a movie. Minor problem was I wasn't able to open the movie in Windows Media Player and many other players like Divx Player etc but was able to play on DVD X Player. Strange?

It wasn't a big problem as I can view the DVD on my cheap Akira DVD player. Yi-pi-ka-yeh. But I have further questions though.

Another way of burning is using the Shrink software method but then burn with say Nero program. What's the main reason for someone to do this way? What are the shortcomings of the previous one?

I have Nero installed but how do I launch it with the classic mode? Thks.

Hi there,

I think once the video data is all converted (.ISO or in VIDEO_TS), when it comes to burning, I think it's just a matter of choice.

Some burn with DVD Decrypter, some prefer Nero, and other use VSO CopyToDVD. And there are tons of burning software out there.

I think the secret is quality media and don't burn too fast.

Hi,

I am burning away with the Decrypter and Shrink. I realised I can keep the whole DVD data burning with Decrypter if the dvd is less than the 4.5 odd GB size aka DVD5.

I need to know how to burn say a DVD9 title to a single layer dvd but still keeping the main menu operative but I understand I would have to forgo the extras etc. The learning stage I am at now is to burn a single disc but without the menu.

Thanks for your time.

Don't believe that Shrink can retain menu in the movie only mode. I believe that CloneDVD2 can do this but it costs. There is a current Afterdawn rebate on CloneDVD2, AnyDVD or CloneCD software by www.Slysoft.com. I currently use the DVDD -> Shrink -> DVD burn msthod with great sucess. I have also bought the AnyDVD/CloneDVD2/CloneCD package and think it is a good deal, even better with the Afterdawn rebate.
