Hey guys

I've been using shrink and decrypter for a while now but lately shrink doesn't seem to be shrinking like it should. I set it to 4300 mb but once the encoding and everything is done I check the file size and it's 4509 mb.(4.19 gb) What's the deal? It's probably something pretty easy and I'm just stupid but if someone could let me know it would be cool. It might just be my shrink settings or I'm not compressing enough??

Thanks

From the DVD Shrink help file.

Deep Analysis

The deep analysis option will encode your DVD in two passes. This will take significantly longer, but it serves two purposes:

1. It will improve video quality by allowing DVD Shrink to better distribute the required compression throughout the various scenes in your DVD.

2. It will ensure that DVD Shrink accurately meets the target size.

This option will be disabled if you already performed a deep analysis of the same DVD. DVD Shrink will remember the results of previous analysis, so there is no need to do it again. This option will also be disabled if no compression is required.

Thanks but I had deep analysis on and it still didn't compress it to the target size. Am I missing something?

Hi there,

I have read that other people had issues also, they were trying to do full disk on episodes DVD.

I think there's so much stuff on the DVD, Shrink just can't do more.

It's like a .ZIP file, Zip can only compress so much...

I think they picked and choose and they re-author.

Is this the case ?
What DVD are you shrinking ?

You might be right but it's doing this for all movies. Right now I'm trying to back up the movie Closer. Any ideas?

I've had it happen to me. Where you run the movie thru shrink and when it's done the bar on top has got red indicating it wouldn't fit, I was doing the movie only and the orginal movie was no more than a few MBs to big. Now I shrunk movies that had almost 40% compression so this movie should have been a breeze. I restarted computer ran it thru again to no avail. Just a suggestion cause it worked for me I uninstalled shrink and reinstalled and it solved my problem. Don't know if that will clear the problem but I would say it worth a shot.

A similar thing happened to me with Shrink. I had one movie that totaled 5.5G and another that totaled 6.5G. DVD Shrink did fine with the 6.5G but could not shrink the 5.5G to 4.3G. Strange...

-Peace and happy burning.

I just uninstalled then re-installed Shrink then tried shrinking Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless mind and it did the exact same thing. What the hell is the deal? I never used to have this problem.

Im not sure what you are after.. You said it is shrinking it down to 4.19gb.. So where is the problem? The 4300 mb you set in Shrink isnt exact it is just an estimate and you should be pretty close. I just looked at all the files on my hard drive that I shrunk down with DVD Shrink and about 90% of them are exactly the same as yours 4.19GB. So there should be no problem.. :-) If you want them smaller than that just adjust the target size again, but those figures you posted are right my friend...

Cheers

The 4.19Gb movies that I have burnt burn fine but they don't play well at all. Too close to the edge of the disc I think. Movies like the Incredibles, Anchorman, Closer... I'm starting to wonder if it's my Playstation 2 that's messed up. And I really don't know why it's creating a larger file than it says. I always used to burn 4300Mb and it was all good. I see no red area and I use deep analysis. I'll try playing the movies I mentioned on a seperate dvd player and let everyone know. I think that must be it if you've burnt at 4.19Gb.

Thanks

Ya I just tried one of the movies on my other dvd player and it seemed to work ok. I guess my PS2 is messed. That flip top and swap magic must have messed it up a little.
Still a little confused with the size issue.

Thanks guys.

The size is normal don't worry about it.. What you may want to do is invest in some better media.. What brand are you currently using? Please don't say Memorex :-(

No memorex here. LG DVD+R and I've never had problems with them before with movies or games. I basicly bought them to go with my LG burner. I thought I might as well.

If I had to guess about the size issue I would say Shrink is using the correct method to calculate bytes.
1024bytes = 1mb
So if you take your 4300 mb and multiply it by 1024 bytes you would get somewhere around 4403200 bytes or 4404 MB. So you see your figures are pretty close..

Hope that helps explain it a little. Maybe someone else could explain it a little better.. :-)

Ya that helps. I just found it strange that all of a sudden every movie that I burn is 4.19Gb. Before they would all be 4300Mb with no big deal.

Where would I find this ID code? On the disc itself? There are some numbers in the middle of the disc.
