Just got 100 8X TY's from blankmedia.ca. They came in less then a week and packaging was Great. Just a question for you TY experts. I am looking at the Code on the Hub of these disks and this is what i am seeing ee000103. With what I have read on this site I haven't seen an ID starting with EE. Is it possibly a new batch. I haven't used any yet so I haven't gotten any results on the burning quality. Any input on this EE code would be appreciated.

Thanks Khameleon

legit TY discs should have GD=4x, GG=8x, GH=16x in front of number

don't know what ee is

Looks good now. I was reading the code from the silver side. Apperently GG looks like ee when reading it backwards. I put the cd upto a light and read it thru the other side and it now reads proper.

those GG ones are just fine like kchev stated...there are a few more inner hub codes to genuine TYs as well, i wrote them down in a post on here a few months ago, i forgot where~, just too lazy to search for them again, but EE is not one of them, as you stated khameleo, upon closer inspection, GG000xxx(xxx being the batch number made) are genuine~ :P

@gear

those are good 4x verbs, MCC002=4x, MCC003=8x and MCC004=16x for the dvd+r format on Verbatims~ :) MOST of them are made in taiwan, and are top quality discs~ have fun~ :)

welcome to the world of posting here on AD~ :) may your journey and knowledge be increased 10 fold~

what picture are you asking for? my recommendation to you is if you buy genuine TY and Verbatim from reputable online sources, the picture would be of no added value to you. they usually use generic pictures on the websites and often look different when you actually receive them.

which media have you tried that you have felt worked well with your system? were they TY or Verbs? the way i look at it, i have thousands of pieces of blank media, but i ALWAYS purchased them from reputable online retailers or in local stores. packaging can be different if particular brands "Revamp/Redo" their marketing/packaging....so, you never know just by looking at the spool~ :) an example would be: i have maxell discs that are an apple green color tops that are mxlrg03 made in japan, while others have identical discs w/ a more GOLD color top, i've even heard of people having a blue top/purplish top/etc...it varies from batch to batch when companies choose to make them different colors, same media underneath, just different color on top :)

@ kivory
well, as far as pics of media, i saw one in another post of some Verbs, guess they were purchased at best buy, spool of 50 for 20 bucks. but i didnt know they packaged differently. anyway, i did in the past, use the dreaded CMG media, memorex, but had no problems with them thus far, i am using a lite-on burner, and to date have now switched to verbs. as i mentioned in previous post, i bought some digital media verbs and posted media info, which was told is good stuff, but made in taiwan. i know sams sells a 50 pack spool of verbs for around 20 bucks and best buy has a few deals here and there, so does circuit city. i guess i can always buy from them, scan one real quick, and if its not good stuff, i can return it. i even used a office depot dvd and it worked fine too.... but i will not take chances anymore i guess, good media = happy burner and happy customer..
thanks for the welcome kivory !!! you will see me in here alot more now..... ;-)

@gear

verbatim media is top notch, they will pretty much 99% of the time be made in taiwan, that is NOT to be misconstrued as being bad. while you might find old batches made in singapore and my buddy creaky also had some from india, they were all pretty good from his own experience~ :)

anyways, the packaging is different many times from different vendors, i have ordered them from supermediastore online w/ diff. packaging than the ones i received from amazon and THOSE were different packaging from the ones i bought at best buy~ as for me personally, i just run them through a disc identifyer program to authenticate..i prefer the 8x dvd+r MCC003 discs as i've used QUITE A FEW of them already w/ flawless results. and my buddy creaky will verify that the 8x dvd-r Verbs are HIS favorite of choice, no problems for him either :)

there is also a inner hub coding on the verbatims that i have found to further prove authenticity, while this MAY or MAY NOT be apparant in ALL Verbatim discs, this is the code i have found for MANY of my REAL Verbs : ZD1321-DVR-X47B.

i think if it starts with the "ZD" and is similar after, you should be ok...these are my good 8x Verbs dvd+r flavor the MCC003s :P

hope that adds a little bit of insight into your verbatim findings :)

good luck

nothing to add there, kivory666 has summed up my thoughts on my prized Verbs :)

as for hub code on Verbs i have noticed the code the odd time, however it's so tiny i don't strain my eyes looking for them often :)

yes, it's VERY small on the inner hub, i just took notice of it not too long ago while i was carefully examining my TYs for their own unique coding~ :) just wanted to make sure ALL my media were authentic~ so, i brought out my trusty magnifying glass and BAM, there it was~ :P hiya creaky buddy~ good to see you around

haha, ok, so when does my name change to member?? ;-)
quick question, i know this needs to be elsewhere, but does audio media play the same role as dvd media? what i mean by that is, is it just as important? secondly, are the TY's just the name of media, or manufacturer? does it go by other names as well? and the verbs creaky loves so much, data life plus only available online, or can they be store bought? i pretty much have all the stores here, c/c, b/b, wally world, all the comp. stores.. just curious !

if you mean audio cd's - in my opinion they are just normal cd's - just a marketing gimmick as far as i know. i'll leave kivory666 to answer the TY stuff, but Verb's (here in UK and i imagine everywhere else) are available online and in stores. That's one reason why it annoys me that people get lured into buying Memorex et al. Buying online are cheaper for me over here as our country rob you for everything except fresh air!

TY= Taiyo Yuden which is the MANUFACTURER of the discs~ :) you can find genuine TY at various online media outlets, w/ shiny top, printable surfaces, etc...you CAN find other name brand discs that USE Taiyo Yuden as their manufacturer (such as Fuji and Sony -MUST BE MADE IN JAPAN on the barcode also namely in the dvd+r format~)

BUT....

very important, brand names such as fuji/sony/memorex/tdk/hp/philips/etc CHANGE their manufacturers without notice from time to time, it's just recently that i have been able to obtain TY manufactured media by looking for and sorting out the MADE IN JAPAN spindles of the 8x dvd+r format for Fuji and Sony~ the other name brands i don't know about, it's just PERSONAL experience for me and i cannot guarantee you will get TY media if you purchase any of the 2 aforementioned brands in the dvd+r format; they might change, they might not, i might just have been fairly lucky~ (since my MADE IN JAPAN fuji and sony 8x dvd+R BOTH code out as YUDEN000T02~) :) good luck

the most SUREFIRE way to obtain Taiyo Yuden media is to buy online from a reputable retailer; such as supermediastore, meritline, rima, etc. BUT, stay away from shop4tech as i have personally received FAKE TY from them in the past. :)

once again, great info to know. had i known all this a year ago, much less knew about this site, i would have never bought crap media, but alas, i did, now i have learned. but luckily, i have not ruined my burner (or is it possible for crappy media to ruin a burner). i did run a test on a few recently burned dvd's i had done in the past, some on good media and some on bad, and funny thing is, the bad sure as heck showed up bad, and the good was excellent. imagine that, i think they were tdk and some office depot, the o/d id'd as ritek 02, but the crappy was cmc mag, and showed to be 100% bad, but plays fine. @ creaky, can you explain the PIE and PIF, or is that another forum? or pm me...
i learn more and more every day, and look forward to reading your input.

@gear79 - the PIF stuff is in first link im my signature. It links off to the the cdfreaks website where the real geeks do that kind of thing day in, day out. I experimented for a while to see what it all meant, and found i had some burns that defy words. The worst i can say is 'utter rubbish' otherwise i'll need a swear box!.

Some other stuff from my sig, you'd never guess i detest bad media with a passion :) -
