Is this during the actual encoding phase or is it during the Anaylising phase? (right after you put the disk in and click on Open Disk)

Can you tell us the exact steps and when and where you recieved that error? Also what is the name of the movie you are backing up?

Cheers

Try ripping the movie with DVD Decrypter to your hard drive first and then run those files threw DVD Shrink..

don't mean to but in...but wouldn't that be a dirty disc? everytime i have gotten that error it was because of a dirty disc, or bad pressing(fingerprints,scratches,smudges, etc.)

Please do but in thats what these forums are for and you are right it could be a bad,dirty or scratched disk. However crossface said it is happening during encoding so the disk was already read. Even so DVD Decrypter is much better at ripping the movie than shrink and it will remove all the encryptions so Shrink won't have to work so hard. :-)

@crossface,
Just rip the disk to your HD with DVD Decrypter and then open those files on your HD with DVD Shrink so you can compress it down to fit on one DVD 5 disk.. If you need some more help try the guide at my website (link in sig) Use the very first guide there and you should have no problems backing up your movie :-)

hey man are you from georgia...that's the first time i've heard somebody say jued outside of georgia...my personal way is have dvd43 installed and running in the background(breaks css), run through dvd shrink(default settings), then burn with nero..all of these apps can be found for free here(except nero is only trial)may want to just check the silver part of the dvd just to make sure that it isn't dirty, remember somebody probably put it in it's disk and could have smudged it had it happen got it new still wrapped and had fingerprints on the back, and no they weren't mine idon't think) ;)

sorry missed the encoding part, yeah it should have read it, have you checked the firmware...and listen to bbmayo(bada$$ guides on his site)

@crossface -

APSI layer is already up to date - you have 4.71...

Quote:
Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 630c> Version: CH16
- your firmware is up to date
Quote:
Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
- i see you said you're using an external burner, but this line should still say 'detected' i think. Go thru the DMA fix on bbmayo's website.

Last address to be written: 2286143 (508:01.68, 4465MB)
- you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. In DVD Shrink's preferences, set target size to 4300MB
Quote:

- your drive hasn't recognised that media. Download dvdinfopro (free from www.dvdinfopro.com) and run that disc thru it's media info check, pasting results here

All the above said, i thought your username sounded familiar, so checked and found 2 more posts of yours. One had a reply from zippyd here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/207034 -
Quote:
I did a bit of research on your drive to try to help you out and stumbled on a few things. I read a few claims that HP Support says this drive is not compatible with Nero and should only be used on a system with XP Home or Win2000, no XP Pro.
So with that in mind, maybe try to burn with a different burning application other than Nero.

And in your other post here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/206056 - you still need to edit out your serial number, it will have been stolen ages ago

I'm getting a Cyclic Redundancy Check error when analyzing the disc, I've tried DVD Decrypter with this DVD, and it failed as well. I've looked at the other topics about this, but the ideas I tried have not worked I tried AnyDVD, but it didn't work either. Restarting/Cleaning the disc did not work either. I've had this problem before and used a lot of programs before, none of them worked. I was able to get it to work by doing something simple, but I can't remember what it was.

I have the newest version of Decrypter, and I still get the same error in Shrink. Decrypter has an error when decrypting VTS_02_02, VTS_02_03, and VTS_02_04.

I tried to clean the disc with alcohol, and Shrink/Decrypter still have errors. The disc plays fine on my dvd player.

may not help but the first few things i look at when i start to get errors on backups are:
check for physical defects(scratches, smudges, etc.)
check to make sure firmware is up to date(always good)
is aspi layer installed and running
is my drive using dma or pio

have you tried reading\analysing the disc in another dvd-rom?

creaky i'm there with you man, i can't stand working on my car(it starts to piss me off too bad), new to comps so still enthused by them(kind of a like a kid with a new toy)
good luck ;)

I am having the SAME problem with Hide and Seek from NETFLIX. I get the same error messages at about 13% with shrink and Nero.

I also cleaned the disc and tried to burn with dvdx copy and decrypter.

Hitch and Hide and Seek both are "un-burnable".

Do the studios have a new block they are putting in movies??

I am using DVD Shrink 3.2

Thanks!

I did both of those with nothing but Decrypter and Shrink so they shuld should work that way,

Make sure you have the newest version of Decrypter
Rip in file mode w/decrypter to your hard drive (Suggest you select only the main movie files in Decrypter.
Then run the files threw Shrink..

Try it that way :-)

>>>>Hitch and Hide and Seek both are "un-burnable". <<<

No, they are not. I had no problems with either.

"Hitch" Region 1 is a Columbia / TriStar film. It has the Sony ArCCos copy protection scheme. To break it, use:
-The latest version of DVDDecrypter, rip to your hard drive, using file mode. Do not use any other program running in the background (shut down AnyDVD, DVD43, etc.)
-Then, use DVDShrink and choose to Open the results in "File" mode.
-Proceed as you normally prefer, either compressing, or splitting to two discs. But, follow the guidelines for Sony ArCCos which are posted at this site (do a search if you have not read up on this).
-Burn as you normally would.

=========

"Hide and Seek" is a Fox disc. It is not unusual. If you have problems with this one, you definitely need to look to the disc quality (smudged? scratched? in need of cleaning? damaged?), or your firmware, or the DMA issue, etc. I used the following:

DVDShrink to rip;
Nero to burn;

"Hitch" has caused a lot of people problems, but those tend to be the people who are not familiar with Sony's new ArCCos copy protection scheme, or who do not have the latest version of DVDDecrypter, or who mistakenly think that DVDShrink will be able to read it from the disc. Do a search on "Hitch," and you will see what I mean. You will also note dozens of people who had success. Note what they did.

"Hide and Seek" is just like any other recent dual layer commercial DVD. Clean that disc, and if that does not work, take it back where you bought it, and ask for a replacement one.
