I tried several times to read the 8.7GB Birds DVD using Shrink, and Decrypter. DVD was cleaned of dirt. WinXP rebooted, etc...

Decrypter transfer rate, after 90% of 8.5 GB approx., starts to slow down to a few bytes a second. After I get I/O CRC errors I click on Ignore to result in a read error. After a long time of rereads I decided to cancel.

(cont) It produced 4.7 GB xxxxxx.i00 and 4.0 GB xxxxxx.i01 files and nothing else. No other files (.mds) were created. The xxxxxxx.i01 file is incomplete but that is not the end of the world.

Although I don't mind not having all the extra clips, is there a way to shrink those xxxxxx.i00 and xxxxxx.i01 files on HD and burn them onto a 4.7 GB disc. Thanks !!

aardvarkz,

Well it is hard to say for sure you may be missing an important file that is needed to play the movie.. The CRC an I/O error are more than likely the cause of a bad disk. Can you get another copy of the disk? If not try the method I use most. There is a guide at my site called backing up your movie with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter (the first one) give that a try and let me know what happens. Link is in my sig

Thanks,

I had already downloaded that .pdf file :-)
What are these .i00 and .i01 files ?? What format is that ?
Is there a way to set preferences on Decrypter to skip a sector or more after a few seconds of "hang".

Great site and great people

Well it looks like you are running an older operating system like Win98 or 95 or you have your Hard drive formatted as FAT instead of NTFS. So which is it? Anyway those are basically images of your Movie but a FAT file system can only handel up to 4GB so Decrypter has to split your movie into 4Gig chunks. The MDS file is what you would select if trying to open the files in Shrink using the "File" "Open disk Image" function. The MDS file basically is a small file wich contains the info of your other files so the proggy you are using knows that all those files go together.

If you used my guide it will just rip the movie in file mode and make it a little easier for you to work with. Thats why I suggested you just do it that way.. :-)

Cheers, and I hope that cleared it up a little for you :-)

WinXP Home edition (not Win9x) and one of the files on the HD is 4.7 GB (>4GB).

Yeah I knew about looking for .mds . I read some of your pages too.

I was hoping on recovering the two .i0# files. :-( already on the HD.

Like I said before if there is an important file that was missed you won't be able to recover them. It's like a table of contents (the MDS file) and if it doesn't see everything that is supposed to be there it won't open the files.. Thats why you may want to give it another go In file mode.

Right click on your C;/ drive and select properties. What file system does it list there on second line?
