Hi, have just put DVD shrink on a new computer running XP. When I highlight the chapter on the right hand side and press play in the bottom left window it just freezes on a green screen. If I try and drag file to the left when it says analysing it happens very quick, no preview is possible and it also says that it is not encrypted (I know it is!). Any ideas? I've tried uninstalling and reloading but no good. The DVDs play in the PC playback software. Never had this on my old computer!

have you tried switching the preview preferences?
edit>preferences>preview @select directx video renderer, switch to 'system default renderer'

Update: I've just found out that I can no longer play DVDs in DVD Shrink, Realplayer and Mediaplayer, but I can in the software bundled with PC - PowerDVD. Realplayer just freezes, mediaplayer says "A problem occurred with digital copyright protection" - in the help website it says that this is because no decoder is available - but if you download the checker it says my PC does have a decoder installed and is compatible with Mediaplayer! Any further ideas?

Update: Must be something to do with encoder as if I play an unencrypted DVD e.g one I have backed up before then this works fine in Realplayer, DVD Shrink etc. Please help! I can't uninstall the decoder as I have a Dell PC and the only way to restore software is to lose everything else I have put on!

What other CD/DVD software is loaded on your system? I mean anything to do with burning/authoring/watching/playing anything...

OK, have found out what is causing problem. I did a system restore to the time when DVD Shrink is working. All DVD software on computer now works. The problem comes when I try to install Iomega Hotburn so that I can write the ISO files that DVD Shrink creates to a blank DVD. Once I restore to before Hotburn then Shrink and all programmes work again. Problem now is that I can't write my ISO files. Is there any free DVD writing software available which will write ISO files?

You could do it that way also. You just have to do it right. What program are you using to burn your disk?

I tried burning audio and video files to disk and it worked fine. I am using Sonic Digital Media SE v7. This programme won't burn iso files, but burns data files fine. I'll carry on with this method until I get to a DVD which DVDshrink can't handle, then I'll try Decypter. Thanks for advice

No problem, but eventually you will with out a doubt run into a DVD that can't be ripped with Shrink and then you will need to use Decrypter or AnyDVD..
Cheers
