First of all DVD Shrink dosen't burn anything. It isn't capable of that instead it uses other programs to do this like Nero or DVD Decrypter.
Have you backed up any DVD's before? If not try going to my website (link in sig) and use the very first guide there that should help you out a lot.
What brand of media are you using?

You might want to run a disc through this free proggy. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ TDK dvd+r's have been known to be manufactured by cmc mag which are about the worst media made.
TDK DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
TDK DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
TDK DVD+R 8x (CMC MAG.E01)
TDK DVD+R 8x (RICOHJPN R02)

Hi Mort81, this is the thread I email you. Thanks for your help but how do I use this identifier. Like I said, The sony people told me that TDK, verbatim, sony and maxell are good for their dru-710a burner(which sucks, had many problems and lots of email and conversation with them)

i have the same burner and firmware byx4, i only use verbatims and ty's for my media we're talking hundreds of burns and 0 coasters. this drive supports booktyping and i always booktype my dvd+r's you can also set nero to automatically booktype dvd+r's.
if you use decrypter to burn it also has a booktype feature for sony's(rebadged lite-on)
click on the book in the bottom right corner, click on lite-on tab, change for next write, then select dvd-rom,click change, hit ok and your done
in Nero goto nero toolkit, choose cd-dvd speed, now click on the extra tab, choose bitsetting, in new setting choose dvd-rom, click on set. this will automatically set dvd+r's to dvd-rom when you burn. hope this helps.
this is only for dvd+r's and when set to dvd-rom all my backups have played on several different brands and older model dvd players
peace

Booktyping a dvd+r/rw to dvd-rom will increase compatability but will not resolve the issue you are having.
Will the video folder on your hdd created by DVD Shrink play on your pc? Did you run a disc through dvd identifier? What is the manufacturer ad ID?

hello, the Nero changes should not make your system crash
and i agree with mort81 my suggestions may not resolve your problem but i think you should give them a shot in the future if you continue to use dvd+r's.

I ran Mort81 disc identifier on here is the results, on 3 discs( maxell+r,TDK+r,Maxell+rw) and the it couldn't read the manufacture, error messages kept coming up, then I ran the Teon-R disc and that came with the manufacture. so now I am totally confused
