Yes you are, you should be able to change all of those settings.That leads me to believe you dont have a dvd burner,you have a cd burner with a dvd rom.
Do you have a link where I can take a look at your laptop, or a link to your burner....I searched the philips website and I cant find your drive.

well, after going to the dell website, i think your right... its just a combo drive i think. is there a way i can get a decent dvd burner installed for a decent price?

Yip looks like you got yourself a CD Burner/DVD ROM player there mate. Which is why the options for DVD burning are unavailable. Hard luck.
