ok ive used shrink for a long time and never had any problems with it until now for some odd reason, anyway my problem is when i hit the back up button, i wait for a few seconds as usual and then my dvd tray opens up then the window opens up where to save the ts folders to and where to select the back up target as normal even tho it never use to eject my dvd durning that..so i push it back in and set where i want the folders to be saved to and when i click ok i get this error message
" dvd shrink as encountered a problem and needs to close"
so ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling ..that never works, i mean it worked fine and just now it wants to be stupid, and its not the dvds cuase its the ones ive used on here before and worked just fine.
so if anyone can help me it will be much appreciated

are you ripping with Shrink? If so, maybe you should try to rip with DVD Decrypter. May help out with this problem as you may be experiencing a copy protection feature on the disc.

did you change anything just before this started happening? Like settings in Shrink or installed new software or hardware?

I don't know what to say. Sounds to me like you're missing a file that's usually in Shrink's program files folder maybe??
Here's what I have, compare it to yours. Location is C:\Program Files\DVD Shrink. I know there's not much here, I was thinking maybe a dll file linking it to something else, but I don't seem to have any files like that.

do you have a program called Copy to DVD installed? I just read that that has a file in it that screws up Shrink. I also read that theres an issue if you have Nero's InCD installed. Do you have either of those pieces of software?

This solution is a bit drastic, but have you done a system restore to a time prior to the last time you did a good rip? This problem happened to me one time. I installed something and it overwrote a dll that Shrink used. After the restore all was well.

I have tried everything mentioned above and I still get the error (Copy Protection Error). This program used to work and all of a sudden stopped working. Something has probably changed on the PC but I have no idea what it is.

@rednitas: are you ripping with DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter? If you haven't tried it yet, try to rip with Decrypter. Shrink's a bit outdated as a ripper and can't handle some newer movies because of copy protection, DVD Decrypter should get past that.

Yes, I know that DVD Decrypter is an option, but I would rather try to resolve the DVD Shrink issue first. It is not the DVD that is causing the problem but DVD Shrink itself. DVD Shrink works fine on a different PC. But on the PC having the problems, DVD Shrink does not work on any DVD, whether new or old. Obviously, there is something different in the environment between the two PCs. I just don't know what is causing DVD Shrink not to work at all on the PC having the problems. Also, as I had mentioned earlier, DVD Shrink used to work on this PC but one fine day stopped working.

Even with the same movie??
DVD Shrink will not be updated anymore and hasn't in about a year, there are new encryptions out that DVD Shrink cannot handle, this may be the reason you get a copy protection error.
Also, do you have the enable burning with Nero box checked in the settings? This causes problems for some people if you have Nero Express and not the regular Nero Burning ROM installed. Try to disable that if it is enabled.

Yes, even with the same movie. As a matter of fact, DVD Shrink will not work on any DVD on this particular PC. Yes, I have tried deselecting the Nero option, but it has made no difference.

maybe get all traces of Shrink out of registry and start completely over??
Uninstall Shrink first, then go Start, Run and type regedit. Now click Edit, Find and type *shrink* and delete all Shrink entries it finds. Hit F3 to find the next Shrink entry, and so on. Then reboot and try to install it again.
That's about the last thing I can think of at the moment, let me know if that does any good for ya.

rednitas,
I had same DVDShrink "Copy Protection Error" on all DVD's
on my PC. It turns out it has something to do with set/reset
the DVD region code on the PC. DVDShrink isn't smart to know
about the region code. So you can just run any other regular
DVD software to reset the resion code first. In my case, I ran
DVD Decrypter. DVD Decrypter detected missing region code,
so it prompted me for the setting. I just set to region code
to USA, quit DVD Decrypter, ran DVDShrink and it worked
OK, no more "Copy Protection Error".
