Clone DVD/DVD Shrink Speed and Quality??

I still have a few days left on my trial of Clone DVD which I am using along with Any DVD which I bought sometime ago.
What I was wondering is if there is a difference in speed in doing a backup between using Clone DVD and DVD Shrink and as well the Quality of the backup using the recommended media by BenQ which is Japan Maxell, Sony, TDK, Imation R+ and I burn in DVD ROM.
I am new to all of this and wanted to get experienced comments. I also have the program 1 Click DVD Copy which I use as well occasionally, but again being new to this i was in one forum and it was suggested to me that this program had limitations for larger data backups and that if I wanted to use a Purchase program that I should look at Clone DVD which is of course by the same company that makes Any DVD.
In that forum it was said that all the steps in Shrink make the Backup take much longer, so I thought that I would ask here.
I also see that there is a program Intervideo DVD Copy 3 available, is it similar to Clone DVD and is the quality the same?
I was looking for a user friendly program, since I don't do backups on a regular basis and found that with Shrink that I had to take my notes out to get going and finalize a backup and it did seem to take more time to do this compared to Clone DVD.

In terms of quality, Intervideo Dvd Copy 3 blows shrink and clonedvd2 away, but its editing features arent that great.
I use clonedvd2 along with AnyDVD to rip the dvd to my hardrive removing unwanted material (trailers, previews, ext.) and then I encode with Dvd Copy 3.

I know that this is going to sound silly, however I am a Noob. I thought that Clone DVD did the writing and encoding??
Just wondered why you use the other proggy for encoding?
Also, can you tell me how I go about setting up a file folder for clone DVD and how I choose the location for it?
i understand how Shrink sets up the ISO files, but am not clear on what Clone DVD does with the VOB and VTS files and how I can set up a file if I want to keep a backup on my HDD.
i hope that these questions aren't too mundane. I have read what is available on Clone DVD, however these questions obviously are only something that a Noob would ask and i can't see where they are addressed in the writeups that I have read.
I thought that Clone DVD was a complete program that did the whole process of burning a backup??

Clonedvd lets you rip, edit, compress and burn a dvd movie. However it can't decrypt or remove encryption. Thats why you need a program like AnyDVD running behind it. AnyDVD will decrypt behind almost any burning program but can't do the other stuff you need.

Thankyou for the reply, what has me confused is why the previous poster indicated that he uses Clone DVD and encodes with Intervideo Copy 3.
Does the latter do a better job of encoding, or is this a personal preference or does the latter have more options for encoding????

Well I use Clonedvd2 (along with anydvd)as a ripper.
then i use intervideo dvd copy 3 to shrink it down to the capacity of a single layer disc.
The only reason i use dvd copy 3 is that it is superior in quality to clonedvd2.

I think they are talking about the final quality after COMPRESSION. Many on here state that Intervideo Copy 3 does a better job and gives better quality on compression than most other programs like CloneDVD . I have tried many programs including Copy 3 and (in my opinion only) don't see enought difference to worry about. I am not saying the other members are wrong just that the difference I see in most cases wouldn't be noticed by the average viewer. I like the way CloneDVD works and keep coming back to it as my main backup program. The Clonedvd/Anydvd combo has not run into a movie they couldn't decrypt with the proper updated versions. So I see no reason to switch. Again only my opinion. Once you find a setup that works well for you stick with it. The setup would include burner drive, software, and blank media.

It all really boils down to the eye of the beholder, how particular they are and their set up (programs they already have, tv size, and so on). Although I use RB/CCE as my primary encoder I personally prefer DVDCopy3's video quality over all other 1 click transcoders I have tried. It doesn't have the editing features like some others do but I use DVDRemake to edit anyway.

Raiderboi,
Can you exlpain how you rip the movies to your HD with cloneDVD2 and then encode with DVDCopy3?
What type of files to you rip?
This might be a dumb question but when you rip with clonedvd2 aren't you loosing some of the quality, and then encoding with dvdcopy3 causes more loss in quality?

I agree with you, IMHO there is quality loss by running it through two programs. It is like backing up a backup.

If you're useing clonedvd2 as an editing tool, you would be better off ripping with dvdd and then editing with dvdremake. No compression involved with either of these two programs. Then encode with the proggy of your choosing. Only compressing one time if any is required after editing.

In one sense that is sort of a true statement. However many on here claim that since we are dealing with a digital video source there is no loss no matter how many times you copy it. Is that a totally exact statement, I don't know for sure. I see members that claim to run their copy through 3 or 4 different programs to get that little bit of better quality. I myself think its overkill. If you want to use Copy3, then run AnyDVD behind it and get the job done the first time. It takes some playing around to find the way you like best. I'll never say that anyones way of backing up a dvd is wrong even if I don't agree with it. Its all a matter of choice. I do think some go way overboard making a backup and want it perfect. As long as the copy has good quality and won't degrade after a few months, I'm happy. Its only a copy after all.

I can't speak for daiderboi but it sounds like he is useing the features in clonedvd2 to edit and then taking that compressed folder and running it through another transcoder which would be defeating the purpose because the compressing was already done the first time.
I agree that DVDCopy3's video quality is a little better than clonedvd2 but once a folder has been compressed with another app DVDCopy3 can only work with what it has for a sorce. If the damage is already done DVDCopy3 can't repair or improve the quality. The less compression and fewer times a folder has been run through a transcoder/encoder the better the quality will be.
Like I said I can't speak for raiderboi. Even though you probably won't notice, whenever you run a folder through a transcoder even if you aren't compressing, it does process (alter) the files.
Personally I rip with dvdd, edit with dvdremake, encode with RB/CCE, and burn with Nero. I only compress my trimmed and polished folder one time.

Maybe you can help me with this one...I was fiddling with DVD RB and it has 3 options....2 of which are encode and rebuild.
Which do I do 1st? The encode or rebuild?
Assuming I am using CCE?

Under the mode tab click on "one click mode". DVD-RB will then do it automatically for you.
