Hello,
I've been trying to backup some DVDs with various programs for windows including DVD Shrink, but having a very strange problem. Whenever I backup the disc, the spoken track (only when people are talking) has its volume lowered relative to all other sounds (background noise, music...) Hence, I need to turn up the volume real high but that increases the rest of the sound as well, making it all but impossible to watch the film. Funnily enough, this doesn't happen with extras but only the main movie...
Any thoughts?

Yes it's not the original disc - plays fine with various players on the computer, and other discs play fine also, but they all have this same problem. I wonder if it's to do with the drive itself - it's a Matshita UJ845, if that helps...
I've noticed that when I watch a movie from a DVD on my PC the sound is lower than normal. That's weird that it's normal for the extras for you, for me it's everything on the disc. But I am using audio cables to go from the drives to my sound card, I wonder if not connecting those cables and just letting the signal go through the IDE cable would be better.

Hmm.. well the sound works fine when playing back - it's literally after I rip the main movie that the spoken track (and wierdly enough only the voices) goes bad - even if there is some protection, how does it distinguish it from the rest? some kind of equalizer settings? Again, the spoken bits in the extras work fine...
I used to have a mac until a few months ago and they used to copy fine with MactheRipper - any windows equivalents of that? I'm sure there are all these, but since they're giving this problem...
well I'm not familiar with Mac at all, I've never used one except for like 15 years ago when we had Apple computers in elementary school. But definitely not the same as now.
Anyway, I think the best ripper out there is DVD Decrypter (for windows), but unfortunately it's not being updated anymore. Some people have chosen to go with a new program called DVD Fab Decrypter, which I've heard works pretty damn good but haven't tried it out yet.
