OK people, I've been reading all this info out there about fake media and needless to say I'm a little freaked out about buying some of my own. I want TOP SHELF GRADE A LONG LIFE DVD-R's but I also want the best price. What's the BEST online site to get said media (Yaiyo Yuden, Verbatim etc)???

I ordered some blank printable Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's from ebay (100 pack for ~$43 S+H included), Do you think they're fake???

First of all if you are going to buy online media Ebay is not the place to do it. I do not usually "pimp" sites but you could try Rima.com for real Taiyo Yuden media cheaper than any Ebay site and you will be guaranteed the real deal.

Hello KenjiM83, those ebay discs have a good possibility of being fakes. That price for printable ty is very cheap.

Can you post that link to the ones you ordered? I often hang around ebay.I've sold quite a bit of media there, all good stuff.I don't mess around crap media.

It's a very good possibilty. Not saying they are or not. No way to tell until you actually have them in hand. Personally, I'm like ALAND, I refuse to buy media from Ebay. Too many crooks cruising the place for me to trust anyone who sells stuff on there.

There are plenty of places to buy it online who can be trusted to sell quality, fake free discs.

Sorry Ken. Wasn't trying to make you worry. Don't sweat it yet. Maybe you bought from someone like saugmon who is a straight shooter. There are still good people in the world no matter what the news keeps telling us. :)

Thanks guys I'll check it out. I still have to see if they're fake or not when they arrive. The guy I bought them from (awedealsinc) seems to have a pretty high feedback and sells tons of blank media so I thought he was legit. If not, I'll definately let other people know to stay away from him.

BTW Kivory, how the hell have you burned 3000+ DVD's already? What's your setup?

i used to have my "setup" (PC configuration) in my sig...are you inquiring about my computer setup i use to burn? or do you mean my "setup" in regards to how i have burned so many?

i am an avid collector of dvds...i have been purchasing dvds since dvd format first became popular...my ORIGINAL DVD collection purchased over the last 5 years or so equates to just shy of 3,500 ORIGINAL STORE BOUGHT/ ONLINE PURCHASED dvds w/ cases. i have an entire room dedicated to home theater w/ 3 of 4 walls completely LINED with shelving to store my dvds. it is naturally taking me some time to backup every one of them..but, i also do backups for family and friends, hence the high number...i use 5 different dvd burners to accomplish this...2 on each of my desktops and 1 on my laptop...etc..etc..

i'm also an excessive blank media buyer...i don't buy by 50pk or 100pk..if i see a good deal, i wipe out stores with about 700-1,000 at a time...few months ago, i picked up 1,800 TYGO1s 4x DVD-R media from supermediastore.com when they had a free shipping promotion~ :)

hope that clarifies it a bit...

Ken, don't believe a word of what he just typed. He found out that there is some kind of weird drug in the dye used in the discs. In this dye is the only place this drug can be found. He also found a way of getting the dye out of the discs and is secretly selling the stuff on the black market. :)

Just poking fun at our friend kivory. Truth is, I once asked him sort of the same question. He has got to be the most avid DVD backer upper in the world. So, if he replies with an answer to a question about media, you can take it to the bank for sure.

@swervin

:) LOL...well, i'm also known as "doc666" round AD as well, so, for me to find some sort of drug in the dye, isn't really ALL that FAR fetched~ :) i am a M.D. by profession, so if that claim were true, i could prescribe these NEW drugs obtained from high quality media and make a fortune~!! :P

had me confused at first when i read your comment, as ironically, my name is Ken too~ :)

good day to you all~

I'm not trying to imply anything as I have no proof or evidence, but look at his return policy...."NO RETURN OR REFUND ON MEDIA "

:( Hope for the best!!

Hey kenji, I checked out that site. I noticed a couple of neutral and bad feedbacks in the last several days, but not on the ty's.

The ad says full hub,and the picture isn't.Double check that when you get them.

He/she won't give refunds, but in another auction, they did say they will exchange only-no refunds.

Let us know when you get them and how they turn out. Later

best of luck, i hope, for your sake kenji, that they are authentic~ :) there are some discrepencies in the auction listing, BUT, that might be due to the fact he just "relists" items quickly after they go unsold, without taking the time to really adjust or change anything between his various auctions..i used to do that too, made it very confusing to say the least...

Here's an idea for you....IF they do not turn out to be what you think they are, just go ahead and relist them. Just an idea....I'm trying to figure out solutions to worst case scenarios.

Good Luck (again)!

After reading other posts, when I needed DVD's last night I used supermediastore.com and found a deal for a 200 spindle with 200 paper sleeves for $68 (US$) of TYs, and that was B4 I read this thread! Starting to make me wonder if things will work out when they arrive...

why would you need to be worried...? if you DID in fact order them from supermediastore...you will be just FINE~

this thread was more about the shady practices that SOME ebay members use to dump and sell fake media online~

supermediastore is a very respectable online retailer in my opinion, i've purchased thousands of discs from them in the past...NEVER had even 1 fake TY~ :)

don't sweat it bro, you got the real deal...

Thanks for the feedback so quickly, I wasn't really worried. Must just be anticipation of toys arriving in the mail mixed with the timing of reading this.

Yea so the ebay seller refunded my money because he said he over listed the item and doesn't have any in stock. Screw that, I'm buying from rima.com and sticking with it.

I went to the site. There is NO WAY I would do business with someone with that many negative feedbacks. Sounds a little hinky to me.

Finally burnt the first movie on the new blank TY's I was wondering about and it turned out great from the beginning and all the chapters i checked out. Strange thing though, I was sidetracked by my wife when I hit the burn button and forgot to change speed from 8x to 4x and this disc advertised as a Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R recorded the whole thing at 8x and it spit out in about 8 minutes. I dont normally burn video that fast but whats up with that???
