no, there is one step you are doing wrong, leave the memory card in the ps2 when you are using AR MAX, ONLY take it out when AR AMX says 'loading game' with the black backgronud.

rember, as soon as AR MAX loads (at main screen, where it has expert mode, memory card manager e.t.c.) take the front tool out to stop the disc from spinning, then put in the swap magic, let it detect disc then it will go to the code list or the game you previously used with that disc.
if it goes to codelist, select the game you want to use codes with from there, select codes and press start, it will now save (the reason why you must leave the memory card in) and go to the 'loading game' screen.

after 'loading game' screen appears (the memory card should be removed by now) swap magic should load, take out swap magic, (just as you usually use swap magic) and put in backup then press X.

when you have done this wait till you get to the title screen for your game, or if it says 'no memory card detected, please insert memory card to continue' put the memory card back in and play the game as usual with codes enabled.

simple! just follow these exact steps and you will be fine, and note, rebuilt games dont work with cheat codes the disc will just stop spinning, but i did find something, if you select 1 code with rebuilt games not all of codes, the game will load.

no, it does not work with a backup copy of AR MAX, you have to have a orignal copy of AR MAX for it to work, unless you have a modchip thats the only way it will work. i asked someone to try using ar max to load cheats frm backup and it did not work.

it works if you have a mod chip, but a backup of ar max dont work with backup games and swap magic. if you are using ar max, can you tell us how you are booting the games with cheats enabled?

Yes it does... you just need to know where to look...

Here is what it say's in the NFO File that came with the download...

Action Replay MAX EVO Edition - Swap Magic

Date .......... : 02/11/05 Platform ..... : PS2
Game Type ..... : Cheat Device Origin ........ : USA-NTSC
Release Type .. : DVD or CD Image Format .. : ISO

Notes: Well after all the blood, sweat and years it's finally here. Action Replay MAX EVO, built to
work with Swap Magic! Up until now no cheat devices were able to use codes through Swap Magic. The
previous release of Action Replay MAX would lock up at the menu screen and the freeze. Now thank's
to me and 2 other people, I bring you a loadable version of AR! This is guaranteed to boot all your
PS2 NTSC DVD back ups WITH codes and work 100% with Swap Magic. Also note that this is not the regular
AR MAX, but AR MAX EVO, which has so many fucking amazing things on it. Here's the link from the
official site which has explains everything this bad boy can do, just copy and paste it into your
browser.

h t t p://us.codejunkies.com/shop/product.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=$&r=0&l=1&ProdID=294

Directions: The way AR MAX EVO is able to boot your DVD back ups is by combining ?CD Loader? with the
AR. This is mainly intended for Swap Magic users, people with mod-chips can just download
AR MAX EVO and burn it, however if you don?t know where to get it, then just follow this tutorial
up to step 3.

1. Burn the ISO to either CD or DVD, either one will work, however I am 100% sure it will work with
DVD-R.

2. After you loaded the game you will see a black screen with white writing. Move down and highlight the part
that says "RESET IOP." Using your D-pad set it to "ALWAYS" so in the end it will say "RESET IOP:ALWAYS"
This MUST be done. Now press "X" and you will see this screen. h t tp://www.swapmagicfix.com/cdloader2.jpg

3. From this screen press "X" again and you will be taken to a screen that contains 8 Menu items, the first
one says AR MAX EVO and it will be flashing, press X and now Action Replay MAX EVO will load. It may seem
like nothing is happening, but just wait it takes about 20 seconds to boot up. If you have a Network Adaptor
it will ask you if want to check for updates. Just select "NO" for now. Now you have your AR MAX EVO fully
booted up and you can mess around with it alittle to get the hang of it :)

4. The background screen will tell you to change the disk, BUT DON'T! Select "Expert Mode" to see all the codes.
Choose a game and the codes you want to use or add a game if you like. When your done you will see a screen
that says "Make sure your game disk is inside" but whatever you do, DO NOT EJECT THE DISK, this will prevent
the codes from working on your back up. Just follow the procedure and start up the game.

5. Now you will be taken back to the screen that first came up when you started the disk. However, there is no
need to change the IOP here, unless it's for a certain fix from SwapMagicFix.com, just press "X" again. Now
your back to this screen again. h t tp://www.swapmagicfix.com/cdloader2.jpg There are different steps you
have to take depending on whether your game is CD or DVD so look below.

CD: EJECT the disk from your PS2 and insert the official Swap Magic CD or an official retail CD game. Wait
for the screen to change back to this one. h t tp://www.swapmagicfix.com/cdloader2.jpg Now just SWAP
the game with your CD back up using either the slide card or Flip Top Lid, press X to load and your DONE!
The codes should now work.

DVD:EJECT the disk from your PS2 and insert the official Swap Magic DVD. Wait for the screen to change back
to this one. h t tp://www.swapmagicfix.com/cdloader2.jpg Now press "X" and you should see THIS screen
h t tp://www.swapmagicfix.com/cdloader3.jpg Now just SWAP the SM disk with your DVD back up using
either the Slide Card or Flip Top Lid and press "X" to load it and your DONE! Your back up DVD should now
work with the codes you selected in Action Replay.

Again If Anyone wants to know where to find the image of the disc used in the above post (AR MAX EVO) e-mail me at piggypie67@hotmail.com

and it does work with backups and swap magic (I DON'T HAVE A CHIP)

and there is no point in refuting it...if you don't believe me jalaneme go get it yourself...otherwise you should just stop replying to these post and being so pesimistic.. The Disc Works for me and will for anyone else that uses Swap Magic.

and yes it will work on a slim pstwo...thats what I have....
you just need to slightly remove one of the tools to change the discs before you boot the game from AR Max then put it back in place so it starts spinning again...(If you use the magic switch)

im guessing that as it has no DNAS id patch in the iso you wont be able to take it online and have to add them by hand?

ok, I've read and tried all the aforementioned tricks and the best I am getting is where the game loads but with no codes. which is just so much of the suck...
Here's my setup:
Fliptop Lid
Neo Key (the little blue usb one)
Action Replay Max (v3.36)
Swap Magic 2.0 (CD 3.2)

Here's the rundown:

Start up the PS2 with AR Max. The Neo Key is switched to the left (off) while the PS2 starts up. As soon as AR Max tries to load I switch the Neo Key on, otherwise the PS2 will just spin the disc at erratic speeds and never load it.
Once AR loads, I do the expert mode and wait for the codes to load up. Then I select the codes, in this case we'll go with X-Men Legends. Choose my codes, hit start and get the prompt to start with codes. Hit X. Get the 'Insert Disc' message. Hit eject, put in Swap Magic, hit X. Swap Magic loads. Flip the top, put in my X-Men backup. Hit square (hitting X resulted in a red screen). X-Men loads, but lo and behold, not one code chosen is working.
Basically I just did the long way to start up Swap Magic.

If anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong please let me know.
Thanks a lot

well you are using swap magic CD, and neo key which are not slim tools. and a swap magic version that is lower than 3.6 and a fatty PS2 not a slim, so it's not guaranteed to work with this method on your setup.

you are supposed to take out the slim tool, (in your case) turn the key thing off when ar max loads to put the disc in. ar max CD is supposed to spin that fast becasue it's a CD not a DVD. and when ar max says 'loading game' after you have selected codes you take the memory card out then. DO NOT LEAVE THE MEMORY CARD IN THE PS2 WHILE LOADING SWAP MAGIC the only time it should be in the ps2 is when ar max is loading the codelist from the memory card and when you are in the title screen of your game. i will say this again, becasue your setup is diffrent it may not work, but try these tips and tell me if it works for you.

I have the AR Max evo and it is the NTSC version (the .nfo file contains the same directions as you posted). The problem seems I can't get this to work with PAL games. I have resident evil 4 (pal version) and i tried with the codes from code junkies, but the cheats don't work. If I try to input the PAL AR codes, I get an error and can't input these codes into my AR. So I guess the NTSC AR is not compatible with PAL Games????

if you have a american ar max you cant use it with PAL games you have to purchase the PAL version or ar max to play PAL games.

Gameshark is only compatible with with american games so it is no use to people who play PAL games, it can be used to play american games, but not PAL games. so PAL ar max is the only option for people who play PAL games. and gameshark is the only option for people who play american games.
