rented 5 dvd's from extravision, 4 done brilliantly thru decrypter & shrink but am having problems copying 1. dvd shrink only anaylzes it up til 13 or 14% then freezes. I have already cleaned the disc and checked for any damage to it, it plays perfectly in the dvd players and comp. Shrink and decrypter are meant to take away the css, so any ideas y this 1 won't do no matter what i try? thanks.

Hmm.... First thing you can't copy rentals. So I would go back and buy the dvd and try again.

WullieM ,
Welcome to the forum. I might be wrong but I believe the Forum Bosses OK'd last year copying rentals.

When you ripped the DVD using DVDD did you get any read errors or did you rip the movie using Shrink? Shrink has not been updated in about 1- 1/2 years so the newer encryptions it can not do. If DVDD gives you read errors then take the disk back and exchange it for another and try again as it is usually a bad press

at least he paid for the rentals, rather than just getting it free online

Hey no agruments here guys - I wanted my post to be more of a read between the lines type of thing (failed). It's a public forum so you never know who's out there (call me paranoid). Plus the way things are going down with file sharing and what with decrypter gone I would error on the side of caution.

Ahh! How moral standards change over time. dRD didn't intend to openly promote pirating, he only meant to remind us that laws differ from country to country and that in some countries copying a rental is legal. It's usually only legal because the governments of those countries have found other ways of compensating artists by taxing media, recorders, and even rentals and then redistributing those funds to investors/artists. He didn't intend for members to disregard the laws of their land or to use AD as a place to proliferate illegal copying.

So Wullie if your not from an English speaking country or any other country that prohibits pirating then best wishes. But if you're from the US or another English speaking country then take care. If a member of the US government happens to be browsing this particular forum and reads this then you just might wish that you would have used better discretion. In a worst case scenario you might even want to keep the phone number to a good lawyer on hand.

use DVDFab Decrypter to rip it, and once it's on your hard drive, open up DVD Shrink, open the dvd file you just ripped to your computer, and it should shrink the file for you with no problem....DVD Shrink nowadays isn't going to be 100% in ripping today's dvd's because of the lack of update's for the software...DVDFab is a newer decrypter and is up-to-date for today's dvd's to rip...shouldn't fail ya

I got the feeling that he'd already ripped it using Shrink. If not then I'd recommend ripping with DVD Decrypter it's still light years ahead of DVDfab Decrypter. I didn't like DVD Decrypter when it was first being developed either because it wasn't as good as SmartRipper but things change over time.

That or try the AnyDVD trial from Slysoft. Good for 3 weeks the last I checked. http://www.slysoft.com The decryption software has been kept up to date better than any others on the market. However, you still need an app to rip to the HD if you're using files from the HD. With AnyDVD running in the background, Shrink (and many other apps) work as though the disc had no encryption. This app really shines for recording on the fly. Use it only where it's legal. ;)
