Sry again for the poser comment...hope I didnt hurt anyone's feelings too bad.
- that's more like it, especially as the poser thing was used back in February too, in another Memorex thread.

It's early so i won't make this a long reply. i got 1000s of posts under my belt. No i'm most definitely not bragging. I have a serious point (as will some of the other so-called 'haters') with this - most of my posts are bad-media related. Period. Memorex/CMC feature in 99.8% of those bad media posts alone.

As i've said before and will no doubt say again in my time here at AD, there are people who use this stuff and get on great with it (Venom included!). GREAT, and no problem with that. But until i stop seeing Nero logfiles afflicted by subpar media EVERY DAY and a never ending of other posts that are afflicted by subpar media, then i and others will continue to show this media for what it TRULY is - crap and not fit for GENERAL CONSUMPTION. This is NOT an Afterdawn phenomenon but fact. (don't forget i and the others you are calling 'haters' are actually intelligent AND experienced in these things). Period.

Anyway, i'm not replying in order to get at you or keep this going, but to show that EXPERIENCE is rife in the group of 'haters'..

ps believe me it gives me no pleasure or satisfaction to know that most of the problems in my posts are bad-media related.

Maybe we should clarify this by saying all Memorex is not bad. Okay, jump on me, but it is true. Some Memorex will ID as Ritek, MCC, Prodisk and TY. Which we all know are good and will work well. So it is not Memorex that makes it crap product, it is CMC Mag . It is usually the brands that are CMC Mag that give the difficulties, eliminate them from the mix and Memorex, and others, would be a decent product.

Okay, now I feel like Venom, take your shots. See what his post has done to me :o

Oh I agree Memorex do suck at least they did for me, the CMC Mag ones. But I have three non-spindle that ID as Ritek and they are the only ones from my Memorex days that play fine. So those who say Memorex work for them may have other mfr disks. On the whole though the media is usually crappy and definitely not recommended.

WOW I was not expecting this one I started this thread.....But either way the sale has been over for a week. Besides Memorex may not be the best media but if someone does buy it and has a good success rate with it then so be it. I choose to take the advice of the people on here. I would imagine most people do though not everyone does and so be it. There isnt really a great cause to argue about this as it comes down to personal choice of media. Yes it has been proven there are some medias that are better than others. But just like computer parts and game systems, and buying a new car. You have the money so you have the choice.....

indeed.

Memorex et al is a very emotive subject. it usually happens that one person gets defensive re such media then all-out debates start happening. it's always the same..

(shudders) - Newbies - pls keep CMC Mag's away from anything other than a wood burner, that's the only guaranteed & lasting burn you'll get out of them. i'm definitely not gonna throw good money away after the bad i've wasted on crap media in the past

Maybe instead of saying just memorex sucks we should narrow it to cmc magnetics suck and buyers be aware that some common buyers of cmc mag are memorex, HP, and phillips. You are gambling everytime you buy any of these medias but its your money. You can gamble $20 for a 50 pk of memorex or spend that same $20 on a 50 pk of some media with far better chances of performing well such as sony or fuji (made in japan).

ok, sorry for my non-productive response that has produced another page of responses. :)

I have used Moser baer india Memorex (3rd class quality) and CMC memorex (bottomfeeders) and i always used to burn on 2x after i learned that cmc give you a lot of errors. So far i havent had any problems with the moser baer but one of my cmc has given me errors. And i only burnt that disk a few months ago. Actually have never made coasters, fortunately.

My statement: CMC Magnetics is not worth the money.

Do you guys think that the specific burner and it's firmware makes a difference? I have no way to do PO/PIE testing but none of my Phillips 8x CMC MAGS or the Staples brand CMC MAGS have resulted in a coaster after about 40 burns.
But like I said I use the TYs and the Verbs for my true backups..

I am VERY impressed with this statement DVDBack!

What you wrote was exact and to the point. If I was a newbie, I would definately have found this imformative.

;)

Anyways, I am out of this thread...you kids behave yourselves in here and see you around the forums.

I agree with venom..."Instead of saying simply that Memorex sux, post WHY it does."...And the reason, "b/c I've made so many coasters with it..." is NOT a viable answer. Later.

viable
Quote:
ADJECTIVE: 1. Capable of living, developing, or germinating under favorable conditions
The Memorex disks I used were not capable of doing any of these under favorable conditions. And the end product was a coaster.

and coaster -
Quote:
Coaster is a slang term for an optical disc (CD, DVD, etc) that doesn't work, normally because of bad quality of the optical disc itself, failure during the CD/DVD burning process, etc. So, such disc just creates an excellent, shiny coaster to use with your latenight pint.
(had noticed the word coaster is clickable); was interested what afterdawn's definition of coaster was..

Could it be that Memorex is owned by Macrovision and a consortium of Movie companies? Stranger things have happened.......:-)

I guess one could consider Memorex CMC Mags as a "protection scheme" thats probably more effective than CSS.
