I want to put an entire Simpsons season on DVD-5, 20 episodes each about 150 MB (if thats possible. I figured I would convert with Winavi, then shrink with Dvd Shrink ( which I have never used before). After converting a test episode, which comes out fine(all Vob, ifo and bup files) I try to open the Video TS file in Dvd Shrink and it says "Invalid DVD navigation structure". Whats going on here? An I even on the right track?

You guys must not care to much about picture quality, or you dont see very well.
@Sqwerly there is no way you can compress 30 minute episodes down to 150 mb and not have a huge loss in picture quality.
@3085,your telling us you can put 2 full seasons of the family guy on one disc and still have dvd quality?...how big is the tv your watching them on 5 inches?...are you talking dual layered?

OK.. but that still not believable that you can put over 5 hours of vid on one single layered disc, and still have a dvd quality picture.
I make compilation discs that I rip the dvd to a mpeg1(I can get over 5 hours on one disc), and author with dvd author. They look fine in travel players, and on very small sets, but on a big screen tv, you can definitely see the difference....they are considered vcd quality, or tv quality, but that is not dvd quality.

Jim Dandy - They are already 150 mb in AVI form, then when I convert w/ winavi they are about 1.4 GB. Is there no way to compress them onto one disc?

As far as I know, DVD Shrink doesn't convert AVI, so I convert in Winavi, then try to transfer resulting files to Shrink. Then I get the Error message that I wrote about in my first post.

do you convert all the episodes individually or as a batch process?
Also do you have IFO and BUP files in the VIDEO_TS folder or just VOB files.

Initially I did Batch conversion, and yes I had .ifo and .bup with the .VOB files. Strangely enough After 10 converted files, Instead of ifo and bup, there was a .nav instead. Don't know what that was about. I also tried converting jsut one file but the same error message results from DVD Shrink v. 3.2.

@Sqwerly
I didnt say it couldnt be done,I said it couldnt be done without a huge loss of picture quality.
As for your error problem,Ive never tried to do that many vids on one disc, so I dont have a clue how you can fix that problem.

maybe your IFO and BUP files don't correlate properly with the VOB files?? You could use IFOEdit to try and fix them.
I think I read somewhere that there is a limit to how many VOB files you can have. Not sure about this, just guessing here really.

hi
dont panick i found this thread thx to jim dandy - hehehe
ok wasup...
from a quick read we need alot of episodes on dvd, first i never done episodes dvd's.....
so am i right in thinking these episodes are in avi to start with? ok anda episode is 30 mins play time? as jim and others say to get alot on will take some compression.
what would i do with avi files and lots of them? ok my fiirst stab would be divxtodvd load say 5 at once (same time) and let it do its stuff, then do another 5 and save to second folder (this way its a compremise) and then do a 3rd set of to folder number 3 (i think you may follow) this way we can spot size of out put files and if its possible to get whatever amount on dvdr5 (4.38gig)
divxtodvd is a great chioce as it outputs smaller vob sized files than other apps (good for episodes)
then load a set of 5 to dvd shrink (as we may need compression?) and then load another set of 5 (now we can get to grips of reality in what sizes we are talking of)
and as we know dvd shrink will output a shrunk iso to burn!
this will resort in a dvd playing one file after the other no menus!
if i am way off come in and talk to me
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

hi
your navigation error could be a combined effort of a bad avi and win avi!
did you make a menu??????????????????
if so its currupted
run your avi through divfix on check for errors and if found do a strip and rebuild with the same app...
but it could be winavi? do you have the latest version of this app?

I will try all those tips...Too bad about the no menus... I luv menus. I've never used DVD Shrink before so I was hoping I could just plunk some files in, shrink em, and burn with Nero and a snappy menu.

you can do the episodes separately with DivXtoDVD then load to Nero (i dont rate Nero vision express - it either works ok or not?) but i will say its possible!
then each 1 will become a chapter piont in Nero if set...
