hello,
I have just recently started burning dvds, and have been successful twice using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. However, when I tried to shrink other dvds it will not let me do so. An error comes up at the end of the ecoding process that reads: not enough space on disk. I tried erasing stuff several times, but i have no idea what i am doing wrong. It's really frustrating; i was about to give until I came across this site. Please help!

Check on your actual free hard drive space like creaky posted.
I'm not sure if it means hard drive or blank disc space. After the encoding the files are on your harddrive and waiting to burn.
If you have plenty of hd space, then:
Reduce your backup target size in dvd shrink:
Open up DVD Shrink and click the following:
Edit
Preferences
File I/O tab
Look for target dvd size. It's probably set to DVD-5.Just click that, scroll till you get to custom. To the right of that enter 4360 and click ok.
See if that may get you going. If could be the media quality not allowing you to burn the entire backup disc. This 4360 mb target size is the recommendation on majority of media. If it's cheap, low quality stuff, then you may have to go to 4300 mbs.It also keeps from burning the outer edge of the disc.
This may help you out.It couldn't hurt. That is where I keep my backup target settings with 0 issues.

I do quite a bit of re-ripping backup discs.Yes,the poorer quality media will cause a lot of errors, therefore making them more difficult to re-rip. Also burner quality and too fast of burn speed can affect this too. I do most of these re-rips on the fly at 100% success rate.
Mcc-002. I burned some verbatim +4x digital movie quality discs and verbatim +4x data life plus with that code. They're ok-similar to ricohjpn-01,but the mcc-003 data life plus +8x are a heck of a lot better.
Those riteks should be pretty good. I just got through burning 50 this last week with 0 coasters. These were the office depot +8x 100 packs for 28 cents apiece. They got them for 30 cents apiece this week.
I'm not sure how much 20p is.Creaky will know this. Usually those digital movie quality discs can be bought on sale for under 40 cents apiece here in the usa.

@gurnard, i missed replying to this one somehow.
i didn't use any of the +R Verbs a lot, certainly not any 4x ones, only if i was given the odd one. saugmon seems to have that covered though.
20p each is cheap, i'm trying to think what mine work out to be. I usually buy 100 Verbs for £38 inc vat & postage (from www.svp.co.uk), which is i think about 35ish pence a disc.
Just noticed on svp that they're doing the 8x ones for £7.45 a 25tub, which is 29.8p a disc - bargain; i guess they've lowered price a bit cus the 16x are in stock now (they're v nice too). dunno if your drive would support the 8x discs though

@saugmon hi :) thanks for reply, i always burn at 2x--2.4x or 4x. on my Ritek
these are the only 2 i've not been able to burn.
1 id'd princo the other unspecified. ie. crap
i think 20p= 35cents or there abouts :)
@creaky:) every one saying +r then book typeing is better than -r i thought i would give it a go seeing as these were cheap enough to see for myself.
no problem with the drive i'm now useing the GO5 1-8x
you'll get me on those Verbs yet
thank's to the 2 of you.

keep an eye on the Imation though, you might buy a great batch one week and a real crapola batch the next, as they use varying quality of manufacturers

My thanks to you all for the tip on resolving this. Also wanted to let you know, after trying practically ever brand I could find, I came across this site:
http://www.best-dvd-burning-software-reviews.com/best-blank-dvd-m...
I then went ahead and ordered Taiyo Yuden TYG01 from Supermediastore.com - since then every copy has been PERFECT.
Hope that helps someone...
