dvd shrink vs. nero recode

I've been using dvd shrink to encode and nero to burn ..but i just found out about Nero recode...does it work better than dvd shrink ...as far as dvd compatiblity & video quality...they seem to be similar..some people say using recode you can make a exact 1:1 copy so is that better than encoding with dvd shrink.So what are you all using too?

Welcome to the forum. This has been answered many times as the author of DVDShrink went to work for Nero about 1 1/2 years ago and he dropped updating Shrink then. Both are good programs but I think Recode gives you a better pic on the higher compression movies. As for 1:1 Copies I use DVDDecrypter in .iso mode to read and write to D/L disks as I think it finds the layer break a little better

I agree, I have found no problems at the break using Decrypter. I got glitches using Nero and Blindwrite.

Thanks for the replies but what about DVD Shrink enhancements like max sharpness & max smoothness.Nero recode only gives 2 boxes you can check which is similar to shrink but not any of the enhancements

Max Sharpness is the quickest w/ max smoothness taking the longest time to encode the movie. I might be wrong but the enhancements ( 2 boxes)in Recode are the 2 middle ones on Shrink. Recode is quicker as I think he re-worked the Algorithm

In Recode you only have the option of choosing a two pass which is the same as Shrink's deep analysis and the quality enhancement is set at default of Sharp, if you want to change this to the same one as Shrink you have to do it manually by going into your regedit. Something I do not play around with. That is the one thing I like about Shrink is that the enhancements are right there for you to choose, although Recode is a tad faster.

It took me forever to find out where the enhancements were in RecodeI always thought it was those two boxes too. Then when I found out they were in the regedit, I decided Shrink is easier even though it may be a little slower.
