So, I decided to start backing up some of my movies. I went out and bought a new package of Memorex DVDs (cause I'm a cheap bastard), came home, and saw I still had some old Memorex DVDs lying around (again, I'm a cheap bastard). So, I begin backing up using DVD shrink with the old DVDs, and all 7 went smooth. I open up the new package, and get an illegal disk error as soon as the burning starts. I tried on multiple movies and multiple different DVDs. Same thing. Here's the log:

Quote: turn on DMA on all your drives
After a few minutes on google and still not getting an answer, I don't know how to do this. Perhaps you could tell me, or point me to a website that shows how?
Quote: uninstall incd as it can cause problems with burning dvd's
Again, there is nothing like InCD in add/remove programs, so I'm not sure how to do this. Also, I've never had problems before, why would this start almost immediately after I just succesfully backed up a DVD?
Quote: your version of Nero needs to be updated
I don't think Nero is the problem, since I just ripped to an iso with DVD Shrink and tried to burn with decrypter, only to get a similar error (Something like "Imcompatible Media"). Due to this error, I think that I simply got a bad batch of DVDs, or Memorex just sucks in general (which I suppose is known fact, but like I said in my first post, I got seven out of seven succeful burns with an older batch of Memorex DVDs). I will, though, update Nero, but can anyone confirm my suspicion that I simply need to buy some better quality DVDs?

Your firmware on your burner needs updating there is a new one BWSE.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=20
Scroll down and find your burner and dl the update, it should help in recognizing those new disks. However, I know you stated your cheap but reconsider another media, it is only a few pennies :)

I did everything everyone suggested (except update Nero, though I did uninstall it completely. I just tried writing with DVD Decrypter.) I got the same error. And yes, this burner is external, but not in a USB port.. It's in a firewire port. I just think there's something wrong with these disks I got, or my burner is just having trouble with them, cause there's no other explanation for it working fine, then not working at all as soon as I start using different discs.

Do you by any chance have any of the Roxio software installed on your PC? If so, this is a known issue, and the usual error it causes is an "illegal disc" error. I have a friend who had "illegal disc" errors in every software (he tried six different burning programs), using the best media (Taiyo Yudens, Verbatim, and Ritek GO4s). He fumbled with this for three weeks and made 57 straight coasters. Then, he learned of the Roxio problem, uninstalled the Roxio, and his problem disappeared forever.
And, did you manage to uninstall "INCD"?
Just a thought...

No, I don't have Roxio on my system. Also, by a stroke of luck, I found one of the DVDs from my old batch (the one that worked) on the ground of my room. Of course, I pop it in my DVD burner, and it works fine, (I belive) confirming my suspicion this isn't a hardware/software problem (or at least not a hardware problem in that my burner doesn't like these discs.) I'm gonna take this 100 pack I bought back, and get some "quality" media, and I'll let everyone know how that works out.

A little update for everyone:
I went out and returned those Memorex DVDs I got, and got a new pack of Verbatim's. They didn't work. This is getting very frustrating. I suppose I'm gonna have to try to find those Memorex one's that I used that actually work, or just go through a bunch of brands till I find another one that works... Unless, of course, someone has a solution for me.

Try Sony, I've worked with that and had good results. But I don't think that the media's the problem. Check which versions of DVDD and DVDShrink you have. Also, try installing the latest Nero and try again. Good luck!

I'm using both the latest versions of Decrypter and Shrink. And I don't believe its a media problem, per se, but that my burner doesn't want to cooperate with these disks, despite updating the firmware. Is there any other way I can get a log like the one I posted earlier from a program besides Nero? Cause I really dont want to download the update unless its really necessary. (I will do it, though, if there's no other way.)

As I said above, I completely uninstalled Nero with plans to update it, but decided to just use DVD Decrypter to write DVDs.. As I also said above, if I need to, I'll reinstall Nero with the latest update to get an updated log.

i'd forgotten that you'd uninstalled (i'm subscribed to a fair few posts).

Tying to fix similar problem. Attached is Nero express error log. I am not trying anything complicated just simple backup of about 4.5 gig of data. My system is new and the media was part of a combo purchase with the drive from newegg. Drive is:
LITE-ON Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner - Retail
Model #: SOHW-1693S Black
Item #: N82E16827106988
and media is:
LEGACY 4.7GB 8X DVD-R 100 Pack Cake Box Disc - Retail
Model #: R8X100CB
Item #: N82E16817131036
Installed the Nero software included with the drive and since uninstalled the INCD components after reading suggestions above.
Here is the log file; And I truly appreciate your help (BTW the drive has burned CD-Rs with no problem

Thanks for your analysis. I just made another coaster in order to confirm it is not a memory problem. I was pretty sure i had done this from a fresh reboot and confirmed it by doing the proecess again with task manager up on the performance tab. Prior to opening Nero I had about 75% of my 1 gig of memory avalable (1 gig of ram should be enough right!) Anyway during the file cache process of Nero the system cache shot up to over 700meg leaving around 200 meg available after the file cache the read buffer started and Nero grabbed around 100 meg of ram leaving very little in available memory. It still failed during the attempt to write the leadin after a few minutes (the disk shows physical change for about an inch from the center) This doesnt seem to be an issue of too many things running but it may indicate a problem with the configuration or the Nero software.
My next step will be to try to figure out how to upgrade from the Nero that came with my drive to the newer one you recomend (hopefully this wont require a purchase). I will update you after, in the mean time if you know how i should proceed with the upgrade or have any other thoughts Id appreciate it.
Btw as I noted on the bottom of my previous post i did try this at 4x and had the same result. While I imagine this media is not the best, one would think it would be capable of use as a data dvd, after all it was sold in conjunction with the drive.

Well, I updated the Nero, and same problem. Ill attach this log. Guess I have to pick up some quality media (what should i get that would rule out media as the problem) and hope not to make more pretty shiny (useless) disks... If that doesnt work any other ideas before i start worrying my drive has a hardware problem.
