Really Slow Dvd Shrink

Ok im really new and slow at this in a rush sorry if i didnt find the answer in the search tool,
But im having issues with my dvd shrink now today i was backing up my guess who dvd and had to shrink it i tried it on my living room cpu and it said 8 hours it was already ripped and all so it didnt need the dvd drive...
later i tried my brothers computer it only took 19 minutes!!! How can this be ?????? can i fix this is it my settings ??? Any help would be appricetated can i update or something.
The computer giving me slow results Is A emachine T1096 with only 30 gb hardrive, Interceleron processor, 896 MHz, & 128 Mb Of Ram with Windows xp
P.S. The other is a t3985 if that info also helps find the problem :-/

Sorry for bumping this but i edited my thread i didnt know how to get the MHz and ram info at first so if anyone helps its better explained :-(

Hello,
I'm sorry to say, but you really shouldn't expect very quick times out of your PC.
Your computer's processor is 900Mhz versus your borther's computer which is 3.0 Ghz. His computer should be alot faster than yours in pretty much everything it does. Your RAM is very low for trying to do video backup. 512MB is considered to be a minimum for this type of work.
To help keep your times as low as possible, make sure you keep your PC healthy.
Do regular checks for spyware and remove it.
Defrag the hard drive regularly.
Remove all unnecesarry junk from it.
Also make sure your drives are in DMA and not PIO mode.
And when doing a backup, make sure all other apps are closed(antivirus,firewall, and whatever else). Don't connect to the net at all. Pretty much don't touch the PC at all, just let it do it's thing.

As per zippyd's advice - your computer does not have the grunt/power for successful DVD encoding/burning.
You need more RAM, faster CPU and probably more hard drive space.
Probably also need to defragment your drive and determine how much free hard drive space you have available (10 Gb recommended).
If you are copying an already ripped DVD, you do not need to use DVD Shrink - just do a Copy Disk with Nero.

Ok to zippyd its ripped but its too large for the average dvd disc.
And to you all i have another question because ciruitcity.com does upgrading now and they add ram and stuff, Are there any particular names of upgrades i would have to do to make this cpu faster ????? (i see ram upgrading but how would i be able to upgrade my intel ???)

Uggh, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here goes.....
e-machines are budget machines. The cheapest parts are used and upgrades or expansions are not intended. They are basically designed to be tossed once they have become obsolete. Kind of the Yugo of the PC world.
You can upgrade your RAM to a larger amount. You'll need to find out what kind you'll need. That will help a bit.
But as far as upgrading the processor, well you'd most likely need to replace the motherboard as well, since it most likely won't support any newer chips. Without knowing what make and model it is, then we can't really tell for sure. As far as cost goes though, it would probably be close to the cost of getting another e-machines to get your PC anywhere near your brother's newer model. I may be wrong, but I think others will agree with me.

My advice would be to stay away from emachines anyway. Be sure to buy a pc you 'can' upgrade if needed. Dell, HP/Compaq, Toshiba or something like that or you could build your own and put your brothers pc to shame! Check your local retail stores or go online for pricing of computers. TigerDirect online has some awesome pc's at ridiculous prices. Checkm out! Just one suggestion among many. Happy burning!

Thanks alot people for the help and replys, i had called a while before reading this and they had said the same thing i can only upgrade the ram and i would only be able to do it with them. im wondering if the ram would help anything though if not ill deal with it or burn on my brothers pc...
