My daughter has been backing up our DVD collection recently. She was able to back up the entire collection with the exception of two movies. After approx. 4 months of effort ... I decided to try and help.

I have downloaded Shrink and DVD decrypter..... the most recent release of each. I have followed a nice little guide that instructs me to use dvd shrink to read the data from my dvd burner to a folder on the hard drive and then use Decrypter to write it back to the blank DVD.

The difficulty is that Shrink stalls at 18% when analizing. If I use Decrypter to decode the movie and write it to the hard drive .... it works... however when I write the movie back to the Blnk DVD with Shrink and Nero.... the image is too large for a DVD.

The movie is "The Forgotten". Also Any DVD chokes on this movie as well.

Rip the dvd with Decrypter then compress with Shrink. Read this guide

Thank you for your input. I did try that to begin with.... I ripped it to the hard drive with DeCrypter and then used shrink to process.... when shrink opened decrypter to write it back..Decrypter gave an error indicating that the file was too large. It seemed almost as if I had bypassed the compression in some fashion. I will look at that again.

Is it possible you had it set to No Compression? Next time compess and create an ISO but do not burn automatically. Go to the location of the ISO and see what size it is. Max should be 4.36GB. Open Decrypter and then burn it. If you find the ISO is bigger than 4.36GB you may need to lower the target output in Shrink from 4464 to about 4300MB

Whoops, spoke to soon. I see you found a way to copy it. DVD idle will also allow you to copy sony movies but why take a chance when they go to great lengths to prohibit it.

That's an incorrect statement. There isn't a dvd that has been made that I havent been able to backup, even dating back when everybody was using PSL patches, encryptions be damned.

i agree with jim, since AnyDVD came into the picture for my backups, there has not been a SINGLE movie i haven't backed up from my own collection; was having a few problems with the aforementioned Sony dvds while using Shrink in the past, but that is a thing of the past with AnyDVD by Slysoft...glad to see your got "the forgotten" backed up~ :)
