you need to exploit your memory card and download the latest HDLoader file. the codebreaker 8.1 method is the easiest that i've seen and done. you take the codebreaker 8.1 and a usb drive and do some stuff. create the exploit files on the pc copy them to your usb, then bootup codebreaker and go to device manager to copy the new system file from the usb to your MC. http://www.exploitstation.com/articles/codebreaker_exploit.php is the info and if you're having trouble, just lemme know and i'll talk you thru it. but it's rally easy though.

Thanks super XL
If i go this route the only thing i seem to need is the 'Codebreaker game cheating program', what and where do i get this
If i decided that i wasn't confident in the above route and decided to go with hd loader / advance, which one is best and should i use winhiip or use a slide tool
Thanks

I use HD advance. The slide tool is easy to use and load times are fast.
I believe you can no longer get an original HD loader but can download it. However this means you need a method of booting the disc you made of it.
On WINhip, well, loading DVD games straight to HDD via the PS2 only takes about 20 - 30 mins. Go make some beans on toast with tea and it'll be done. I can't be arsed taking my second HDD out of the P.C to put the PS2 one in, load a game, take it out, put the other HDD back in, re-fit PS2 hdd. bla bla bla.......
Go HD advance and look into the dual layer ripping later, as they become more common and solutions more straight forward.
Byngo.

serafin: you can get codebreaker for 20bux at walmart. you will need to download hdloader updated files. go to http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=elfs to find the file(s) that you need. i say use winhiip. you have to take the ps2 hdd out and put it into your pc. you can load the games right to the ps2hdd from your pc. and it's 5 times faster than doing it thru the ps2. you can actually take the ps2hdd out, hook it up to your pc, transfer 1 -3 games, put it back into your ps2 and start playing by the time it takes you to transfer ONE game on the ps2 itself. you dont need the slide tool to do any of this. but that would help when you're doing some swap thing that i wont discuss here.

right, I bought the HD Advance software, and it works fine, but only with bought official games. So when I backed up my version of Tony Hawk's 4 on my PC as an ISO, but when I burnt it to a DVD and tried to put it onto my PS2 hard drive it refused to read the disc as a PS2 disc and wouldn't do anything...obviously cos it's not a PS2 disc!
so my question is what do I have to do to put a backed up PS2 game from a PC onto the harddrive and play it using HD Advance?
sorry is this question is a bit confusing...I'm pretty confused myself!
Cheers

you will prob'ly need to take the ps2 hdd out of the console and plug it into your PC. (slave drive) and use a program called winhiip to upload it to your ps2 hdd. it might NOT work depending on how you backed it up on your computer the first time around. i had problems with jak and daxter games like that.
you can also put games on the ps2 hdd a li'l bit faster by hooking the hdd up to the PC, and load the games from the dvd-drive using winhiip. usually quicker than using ps2.

For back-ups you need to use a slide tool (as used for swap magic)
Boot up HD advance and select the option to load a game ( i cant remember what its called) then when it says "insert disc" use the slide tool to unlock & open the disc tray without the ps2 knowing its open. Put the back up in, close the tray, use slide tool again to lock the tray, and press X. Thats it. done.
If youre not sure how to use the slide tool do a search or check out the HD advance website which I think tells you, with pictures.

Ok, i think i have got this now, but please tell me if im wrong!
Take PS2 HDD out of PS2, insert it into PC as SLAVE DRIVE (how do i make it slve drive? - i connected it to slave ribbon and power)
Create ISO from GAME disc, save ISO to PC HDD.
Use WINhiip to transfer the ISO from PC HDD to PS2 HDD
Thats it done?
Please tell me if this is right or wrong, Correct me PLEASE!
I want to know how to do it properly, and not mess everything up, i have a good PS2 that works, i dont want to mess it up!

to make a drive slave, you should either remove all the jumpers or look and see if there are diagrams on the hdd itself that tell how to set the jumpers in order to make a slave out of the drive. lol, "make a slave".

Ok, thanks, i will remove all the jumper pin things from the drive... havent seen the image of it yet though :|
So, once the drives in, then do i start WINhiip, then transfer my iso the the HDD?
Do i need to do anything else first like, exploit on the MC? (i dont no what it is, but many people seem to be doing it lol)
Thankyou.

the main reason ppl were doing MC exploit is because it allows them to run the latest version of the HDLoader file. the file is necessary for playing some of the newer games that wont work with HDLoader original cd. or HDAdvance 2.0
so exploit if you need to. go to www.exploitstation.com OR www.ps2hd.com and look for tutorials on how to exploit. it's easy if you have a cheatcode device such as codebreaker and a USB pendrive. happy hunting.

you would have to do some hackery tricks. but at the end of it all, you just flat out cannot play online with a game on the hdd. the features that allow you to use the hdd, cancel it out as a netwrok adapter that allows you to play online.

prob'ly not, but i'm not sure since i dont think i have any like that except tony hawk, but i dont wanna go thru the trouble of configuring a network to play the game.
check www.exploitstation.com or www.ps2hd.com for a tutorial on how to do this. if it exists, then someone in either place has answered all the questions. just search the forums for a while before you harass them personally.

an elf loader is a program that executes (runs/loads) a nonstandard program (elf file) designed to work with the PS2.
launchelf / keylauncher / ps2menuK = elf loader.

through the magic of technicallities, YES.
you would need an elf loader such as launchelf or keylauncher. you would need to setup the memory card exploit, and select a loader. launchelf is the reigning champ, but keylauncher is 2nd best, and ps2menuK i dont even bother with. you will need one to run the latest patched HDLoader to run games from the hdd. you can save the exploit and HDL on the memorycard, but i would prefer the hdd. if all you want to do is be able to run this hdloader, then keylauncher is good enough. if you want to do more than just that, then launchelf is your choice. i assume that you already know about the memory card exploit, and how to load games to the hdd, from PC using the network or winhiip.
