DVD Shrink Problem

Hi, i have recently downloaded dvd shrink and can successfully analyse dvds but when it comes to backing them up and trying to burn them it does not work. I have a dvd rw drive, but when i select to copy to d: drive it comes up 'folder unavailable' and it does not allow me to burn it....help!!!

need a little more information.
film you are trying to back up, media
engine you are useing to burn with, ie Nero or DVD Decrypter or whatever.
DVD Shrink is not a burner in it's own right.
you can re-author analyze or compress with shrink and then burn in conjunction with one or the other of the two above, or what ever is your prefered burner.

Im trying to burn the harry potter movies at the moment...i have downloaded Nero, but it still just wont work...for some reason it will not allow me to copy to the d: drive....ahhhhhh!!!

First, since you installed Nero after you installed Shrink I'd remove and reinstall Shrink. This will set all the Shrink settings back to the default settings, among other things.
Next, make a folder on your desktop for the temporary files. This makes it a lot easier. Name it "DVD Work" or something like that.
Put the movie you want to copy in your DVD drive to read it. I'm going to assume you have only one drive, D:\.
Open Shrink. Select "Open Disc" and open the movie.
Before going any farther, see what a few of the Shrink settings are set to. These are simply the settings that will allow Shrink to use Nero to burn with. You can come back later and tweak these as needed.
From the top menu, select Edit then Preferences...
This opens a tabbed menu.
First tab, Preferences:
Target DVD size- Default is DVD-5 which is OK with good media.
The "Automatically open VIDEO_TS folder" box checked.
Preview:
Default settings
Output Files:
Default settings, which is the top four boxes checked.
Stream Selections:
Default settings
File I/O:
Default settings and..
Make sure that "Enable burning with Nero" box is checked!!
Click OK to close this menu.
At this point you can now remove un-needed audio and subpicture streams. Removing these will reduce the amount of compression needed. Make sure the green bar at the top has no red showing in it.
Select "Backup!"
This opens the Backup DVD tabbed menu.
The first tab is the Target Device tab. This is important because it tells Shrink where your burner is and where to store the temporary files.
So select your burner as your target. In your case this is your DVD-RW which is your D:\ drive.
For the temporary folder browse to the folder you created earlier and select it.
DVD Region:
Region free box checked.
Quality Settings:
These will improve quality but will at least double the amount of time it will take to encode the movie.
Options:
Only the "Play sound when complete" box checked.
Burn Settings:
Select a slow burn speed, no more than 4X. In your case this may be greyed-out because you have the original movie in your drive so Shrink will not give you that option. I'm not sure if you can set this. If not, just use default settings.
Once all that is done you are ready to start the encoding and burn process. Select OK at the bottom of the Backup DVD menu to begin.
Once the encoding process completes your original disc will be ejected from your DVD-RW drive and Shrink will ask for a blank DVD. Remove the original and put in a blank DVD. Shrink will open Nero and complete the burn process.

hi i have done everything as instructed in the last post, but the problem now is that i cannot select my dvd rw drive in the first dropdown menu..the only 2 options are hard disc and iso image file.....

Make sure you have enable burning with Nero checked. Shrink will only display the drive as an option if you have this box checked and have Nero installed correctly.
Shrink will not work with some newer movies. They may have a newer form of copy protection. Try an older movie. At some point you will have to try a more up to date program. I would like you to get Shrink working first.
I have a feeling that you may have some other issues with your PC and your programs.
You will have to provide us with a bunch of information to start with.
You can always try other programs at some point and I'm sure many will be recommended.
I have several myself.
I take a slow approach to these things and can usually figure them out. I would like to make sure your PC is up to speed first before we throw a bunch of different programs at it.
Here is an easy way to get most of the information we need. This link is for Nero's InfoTool:

Download the zipped file, extract the InfoTool.exe.
Click on the .exe to run the program. Once it gets done running, find the "Save" icon at the top of the program.(It looks like a floppy disc)
Save it to your desktop.
You should end up with an InfoTool.txt file. Now all you have to do is copy/paste the results into a reply.
The information this tool retrieves is safe and simply lists computer specs, drivers and other operating and set-up parameters.
It is a lot of information but still post the entire thing.

I don't have the same problem as the other guy but if you could help i would appriciate it. I have DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15, and on any movie that i am backing up i get this mesage:
DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Copy Protection error
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
Even on ones that i know back up fine, because i can do them on my laptop. Here is my info. Thanks for the help.

Hi Jared,
Shrink is having a problem with your Nero. Try unchecking the "Enable burning with Nero" box in Shrink:
(Edit> Preferences> File I/O).
Once you have completed Shrinking the movie, open your Nero to back up the movie.
You could also use DVD Decrypter instead of Nero to burn your movie.
