Help - No more shrink or decrypter!!??

I've been using both these programs for some time with excellent results but today neither seems to be able to communicate with my Pioneer DVD Reader/Writer.
The Drive will read and burn in other applications but DVD decrypter Log Shows the following:
I 11:02:40 Initialising SPTI...
I 11:02:40 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
E 11:02:40 DeviceIoControl(IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY) Failed! - Device: '\\.\Cdrom0'
E 11:02:40 Reason: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
W 11:02:48 No devices detected!

When I try to use Shrink I get an error message:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read Drive "E:/"

I have not knowingly changed anything on the computer since these programs last worked. Does anyone have any ideas??

uninstall and reinstall the programs and see if that helps

also do a disc cleanup and a defrag and make sure your system is clean prior to reinstalling

reboot after doing all this and see if that fixies your problem

I'll try as you suggest and let you know if any success.
The only change to my system was a Windows XP update obtained on the net a couple of weeks ago.
Windows Media Player will not play encrypted DVDs nor will Sonic CinePlayer.
