I just got a new external sony burner. I have 200 TDK DVD+R disks I would like to use, however the burn process fails, pretty early on (less than 10%), everytime. I upgraded my copy of Nero via their website, and the problem persists. I am burning at the minimum speed it will allow me to, 4X... max rating of the disks is 8X. Do I need to find some firmware updates, or is this just a really bad media, or is it something else?

Any assistance is very much appreciated.

Below is the error message I receive:

The failed disks appear to be burned about maybe 1/15 - 1/10th of the total area.

Check out this site for some feedback on that sony burner. It is a re-badged lite-on.

This is too much data. Try reducing that backup target to 4360 mbs. What programs are you using?

TDK uses a lot of cmags on their on their plus format discs. You may have trouble with these, since they are way inferior to the true ty's.

This can get you started until the real pros show up. Later

I think I had a FireFox window up, pretty sure I had shut most of the things in my start bar down. I also reduced the size in DVD Shrink to 4gig.... still failed burning. The only program I am using is DVD Shrink, which calls Nero to burn the disc.

I guess I will try looking for a firmware upgrade.... up to like 10 wasted discs so far =/. Anyone know a good resource for that? Just gonna see if I can find anything on google now.

Try different media. The TDKs are made by CMC and aren't quality. Try TYs, Verbs or Maxells DVD-Rs.

I have a Sony DW-D22A, It is actually a Lite-OnIT as Saugman knows :^)
Good link Saugmon - lotsa people unhappy with the device.
I never had problems, I burn with Sony DVD+R 8x blanks (@ 4x of course).
Also works with BenQ and even Memorex DVD-R 8x @ 4x, nary a coaster.
Palagi, my burner is master on the secondary controller.
I notice you have a DVD reader as master and CD burner as slave on your rig's secondary controller, and you bought an external DVD burner!?
If you are using USB interface for this, it is an unfortunate configuration and seems to me poorly conceived...
At 8x speed a DVD moves data @ >10MB/second. With a USB burner you will NEVER see 16x and must in fact burn at only 4x (if you are lucky).
So... good luck to you!

I've only got room in my case for 1 optical device so deliberately put my dvd burner internally and put the dvd-rom/cd-rom combo drive in 1 of my usb2 enclosures, ALL ripping/encoding/cd burning is done from/on the usb device. Did have some sucess with the dvd burner in the enclosure previously so if I buy a 3rd burner it should work ok, but enclosures generally seem too troublesome and slow from what I keep reading so I probably won't bother

Damn spammers.

Attar, I'm still unsure about that ty-g01 code. It sounds like palagi is using them and hasn't broken out that 200 tdk plus discs yet.

I'm thinking fakes on the g01's on his Nero log. Still need clarification on those tys.
