cdrip,
Welcome to the forum. Since Shrink has not been updated in about 2 years and the author did go to work for Nero then My vote goes to recode2. Shrink is free but recode2 costs $$. Both are good and it depends on what you want to spend

I've been getting some info on Nero recode2. It is quicker, and I believe it doesn't max out your processor like DVD Shrink does, unless someone else tells me different. They say the quality is better with recode2,but DVD Shrink gives near perfect quality.
Dvd shrink will pull off majority encryptions, except for the newer ones like the sony arccos encryption.
Nero recode2 will not pull off any encryptions.
But you can by-pass that with the program called AnyDVD by slysoft. This background ripper pulls off the encryption for you for both DVD Shrink and Nero recode2.

Here is a comparison article on the two

Recode is definitely faster, and not as intensive on the CPU, but you can set the quality enhancements easier in Shrink than you can in Recode. With Recode you have to go into the regedit and manually change them. IMHO Recode does have the slight edge, but Shrink is free.

Being a new user of Recode 2, I have seen the quality that recode2 has over Shrink. I like how shrink quality enhancements can be adjusted more quickly, but looking at my HDTV monitor I see the quality picture would go to Recode 2, I feel CloneDVD 2 , Intervideo Copy 3 look even better. This is my own opinion and I've only been using Recode 2 for a week, while the rest of the progs. I have been using for a long time.
