I have dvd shrink, my settings are:Deep Analysis, making is "smooth".Its starts fine...does the analysis and then starts the encoding, after about 30% it just stops. I mean totally shuts down. The only thing you see is my desktop. It is like I was even using it. Have I done anything wrong? I have a dell 2400, graphics card, sound card, 750meg memory,1.8mhz amd. Can't think of anything else that might be of use to you. Please help.
Thank you,
Chaz

Maybe heat issue. DVD Shrink will use 100% of your processor during the analyzing and encoding phases. Best to turn everything off in background while you rip and encode. Also open up the case and point a fan at it.
It could also be spyware/malware. Clean the registry.
I had many issues on my last pc using the max smoothness and max sharpness on the adaptive error compensation enhancement. It worked ok without them when I reduced compression with main movie only. When I used max smoothness,it would totally shut off my pc going directly to my bios screen. When windows kicked in, I had lots of registry errors. It finally fried,so I replaced it with the pc in my sig.

Curious, has anyone actually been able to use the "max smoothness" or "max sharpness" while using DVDShrink without having their PC freeze up or shutdown? What PC specs is needed to accomplish this?
Other than setting the "Target DVD size" in DVDShrink, is it better to just leave it mostly in default settings?

I have no problem with max smoothness on both my pcs. Even on my 598mhz p-3/256 mbs rimm has no problem,a heck of a lot slower-12 hrs +,but beautiful backups.
My last pc: Athlon 3000+ barton/1 gb pc-2700 had major trouble with them.Blue screen of death/black screens/and burned up power supplies right and left.Exta fans and blowers helped, but something in the registry was screwed up and she burned up!
The only time my pc freezes up,is on the newer sony arccos encryption.AnyDVD takes care of that issue. It freezes up and gives a crc error without AnyDVD running.
The reduced backup target size is the only thing I changed in DVD Shrink settings.

I use to use the program called Registry Mechanic 4.0 or something in that version range. It didn't work 100%,that's when my pc blew.
I've got this free program on my main pc:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
To turn off programs before doing the backup process:
You can right click the lower right hand icons in that tray and shut them off manually.also go into Start/Run:
Run/type in msconfig/ok/click startup tab/dis-able all or tick certain boxes ones/apply/ok/Reboot. This will also speed up your startup.

ok, this is probably a stupid question, but will any of this damage my computer? You said the registry cleaner doesn't work 100%, is it worth downloading? Again, thank you for helping out a newbie.

That athlon 3000+ pc was a total pc of crap.. She'd put out great backkups, but many other issues with it.It wasn't running right when I first bought it. Adding fans/blower/and more ram helped. It wasn't running too bad until a brown-out during an ice-storm last january. Since then, wiped out 3 ps's/2 gigs of ram/and mobo. It's last dying words were: Registry errors. Running the usual Registry mechanic 4.0 didn't help and she fried another powersupply along with my last half gig stick of pc2700.That's 2 and a half gigs of ram wiped out in 4 months!!!!!!!This pc was built in hell!
I got the ccleaner registry program from ddp. He's helped me quite a bit on that last piece of crap pc. He's even got some other programs to run along with ccleaner, but in safe mode only. Try looking in the hardware forum on similar issues like you are having and look at ddp's posts for that exact recipe of programs.
Edit: I just found of of ddp's posts, check it out here:
