I rescently have started using shrink. No problem with the first 10 or so discs but have had a problem of late with shrinking discs and ending up with a file that is meant to be 4,464 but when I go to nero the file is 4,484 or slightly larger. Checking the video file already shrunk again with shrink shows me that the file is also this size. The problem is rectified by re shrinking. While It is easy enough to over come, re shrinking a file that was supposed to already be of burnable size gets annoying at times. Any suggestions why this problem is occuring would be appreciated. I should mention that each time this error in compression has occured I have custom shrunk the special features to the smallest size and have left the main movie / episodes and menu on auto compression. Shrink says in the size bar that the movie is 4,464 and there is no red line.
4360 mbs is the backup target on both my pcs. The burn is slighly over 1mm from reaching the outer edge. On some of the crappy media, this target will have to be further reduced. If problems arrise at the end of your backup, regardless if it is burning or playing on a stand alone, reduce the backup target.
this disc you're having problems with, is it a concert DVD or any other DVD with multiple angles? If so, that could be your problem. If this is the case, try to set any unwanted special features to a still image and get rid of any unwanted audio and subtitles. If you aren't using a receiver with DTS decoding, you may as well get rid of the DTS sound as that's a huge chunk of data that can be used on video.
Reshrinking will work, but chances are you'll be unhappy with the results. But if it's only 20MB that you have to get rid of the second time, it probably won't make too much a difference.
