Problem 1:

You recieve the error when you try to open up a DVD or files.

The problem can be due to known "Problematic movies" such as Resident Evil: Apocalypse region 2,4,5. For more information on a list of those movies and a working solution look at this FAQ page.

Solution A1:

The best solution.

Use the latest version 3.5.4.0 of DVD Decrypter to first rip your DVD to your hard disk and then use DVD Shrink in open file mode.

Solution A2:

You don't need to use DVD Decrypter first to rip the files to your hard disk - just have DVD43Free running in the background and you can use DVD Shrink directly from the original source DVD - thus saving you valuable time. DVD43Free only works on Win2K and WinXP.

Try to unplugg your CD-Writer - could be a conflict. Credit: encounta

Solution C:

I extracted one DVD to a folder on my comp with DVDDecrypter. When I came to open it with DVD Shrink 3.2 (File, open... ) I got that message error : "Invalid DVD Navigation Structure". I found a solution for this problem using posts on this forum and a little bit of searching on the net.

1. Delete ifo files in the extracted DVD folder
2. Download IFOEdit at IFOEdit.com/" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.IFOEdit.com/ (my version is 0.96)
3. Open it and click "Create IFOs" (the box at the bottom)
4. Fallow instructions and save IFO in the same rep as extracted DVD. Let it processe; It could take like 5 mins.
5. Close IFOEdit
6. Start DVDShrink 3.2, click File, Open... and it should work
7. (optional) I my case this step was necessary. You may have to rename VOB files to this form "VTS_01_x.VOB" where x E[1,2,...,n] from first VOB to the "n" last one

Please note that after shrinking a movie in the case you remove audio track(s) it could be a good idea to delete IFO in the encoded repertory then to apply step 3 to 5 from this little guide. This is a good idea because in the IFO there is still infos concerning removec audio track and when played on WinDVD, by example, the choice for removed audio track is still there, but it points to nowhere.

By example, you delete Spanish track because you speak English. If you dont do steps 3 to 5, in the DVD player Spanish will still be available, but when you'll click on it, nothing will happen. So this is only for a "looking" reason that you would do that, but mabye a bug could occure on some DVD player if you don't.... but for this part I really don't know.

After the Create IFOs, you need to manually input the languages.

Do this:

1. Open the IFO of the titleset concerned - eg VTS_01_0.IFO
2. In the VTS Overview screen locate the audio streams and subtitle streams
3. Double click on the relevant streams to get a dialogue box. Usually changing the language and number of channels is all that's required
4. Do this for all the audio streams and subtitle streams
5. Save the IFOs
6. Do the same for VIDEO_TS.IFO

Subtitle colours need to be checked and copied for each IFO. If you get green and unreadable subbtitles - you can use this fix. Credit: de Witte

Solution D:

Sometimes doing a "mock strip" with IFOEdit can resolve this problem with the advantages that all of the chapter points and audio and subtitle information remains intact.

1) Launch IFOEdit and open the VTS_01_0.IFO
2) Click on VOB Extras and make sure all check boxes are checked EXCEPT:
Remux, Rebuild PTS, Split to 2 DVD-Rs, and Remove IIvu/Angle Point.
3) Select a new destination directory.
4) Click OK.
5) make sure Correct IFO Tables checkbox is checked.
6) check all streams that are to be kept.
7) Click Strip It.
8) make sure Correct IFO Tables checkbox is checked.
9) check all VOB Ids.
10) Click Strip It and let IFOEdit process the files
11) When IFOEdit has finished, close IFOEdit

In the new destination directory, IFOEdit may have created a couple of zero length files (VIDEO_TS.VOB and VTS_01_0.VOB). These should be removed.

12) Restart IFOEdit
13) Open the one of the new IFO files in directory D
14) Click on "Get VTS Sectors" and say OK to all of the dialog boxes

Problem 2:

You are trying to open files/DVD from a TV recording.

Solutions:

As far as I know your DVD-RW recorded from the TV is most probably in DVD-RAM format and Shrink will only recognise DVD-ROM structures. Credit: jellybean

In one of the old messages I found that VobBlanker was suggested. And indeed, my problematic files processed by VobBlanker (default settings) could be read by DvdShrink 3.2, though there are a number of extra titles. Credit: fransk

Apply DVD Decrypter on the title.
Delete all the *.IFO files in that folder.
Then use IFOEdit, create IFO files button - selecting the *.VOB file of the title.
Then use DVD Shrink on that folder. Credit: stcrocefirenze
