Just wondering what the afterdawn gods think about these to programs and which one they would recommend. I have both. Also can someone explain to me what booktyping is when burning (I assume it is a different type of way to burn a movie , if so should I do this).

Shrink and Recode are made by the same developer, Recode has the edge on speed it is faster and it is also updated. Shrink is more user friendly in that you can change the quality enhancements from the program where with Recode you need to do it from the regedit. I use both but prefer Recode because of speed and also it is not as CPU intensive if set at low priority.

As for booktyping you need a burner that will do this, it is setting a +R media to DVD-Rom which makes it compatible on most standalone players, i.e. if your standalone will only play -R media after booktyping a +R disk it will play on this player. Here is a good thread discussing booktyping.

arniebear Thank You so much for the fast replay and the info was great. My only question is regarding the regedit for Nero recode is it needed and what can you do with it.

Shrink can also decrypt where Recode can't without outside help. However Shrink is no longer updated so it can't work on the newer encryptions. It still works well on many movies out there. As Arniebear stated they were both designed by the same author so you don't see a big difference in either except the decrypting ability.

Quality enhancements or AEC are used when your compression reaches a certain level and aids in picture quality. In Shrink you will see them under your deep analysis which is also needed when a certain amount of compression is reached. It ranges from Max Sharp to Max Smooth with Sharp being the default in both Shrink and Recode. Here is a thread that will explain better

Sorry to keep bothering you,but my regedit coomand will not work it is telling my that it's a 16bit file and my system is 32 bit. I am stuck now I would like to swithch it to smooth if possible thanks again
