@tashacat, unfortunately it didnt have a manual, only an install cd...yep it has a "how to do it" I think. I am based in Aus and dont know aboit availability of printer in other countries. It has a small tray at bottom where disc is inserted for printing, also excellent printer for photos etc. Also you can plug your digital camera direct...no comp. required.

@ gwendolin:
Quote:
printing takes LESS than 30 seconds and ink is DRY on ejection from tray. Cannot tell the difference from the original.
actually your slightly wrong the ink isnt dry around the inside of the disc and it takes 2.23 minutes to dry properly after it is ejected
I have an IP4000
As for a manual:

Thank you for using CD-LabelPrint.
CD-LabelPrint is a label printing software designed specifically for CD-R Direct Printing. The various tools allows for easy, yet original, designs to be printed directly to CD-R media.

Um the manual is a bit big to copy but heres a list of the help topics which come with the software:

I bought an LG lightscribe burner and am happy with it. It does take some time to print the label. 30 minutes is average, the shortest time was 21 minutes for me so far. I have only done 10 lightscribes so far. Best Buy just recently had a 10 pack of Verb lightscribes for $8.00 each. That makes them .80 a disc which isnt too bad. No ink to dry or replace. The image comes out as in ScubaPetes example. Silkscreen quality. I get my images from either www.cdcovers.cc , or i scan the original disc with my flatbed scanner. I like the looks of the inkjet printable discs better than the lightscribes, but that is just because the inkjets are in full color. If the cost of Lightscribe discs can be kept to under a buck or so, then they are the way to go for me. I got an LG lightscribe burner to replace my memorex and i am very happy with the drive and discs. I guess it all comes down to personal choice and costs. You dont have the ink replacement cost of an inkjet in the lightscribe (my hp ink cost 50 bucks for color and black ink), but media costs a little bit more, and it takes longer to print. I also wonder if you decrease the useable life of the burner, as you are firing the laser for burning and printing. These lightscribe labels come out much better than i am capable of printing, so they are worth it for me. I only use the LS discs on worthy movies, everything else can go on a Ty DVD+R. If i were typing from home, i would include a scan of LS discs, but they don't look any better than the one ScubaPete posted. Something you can't see in a 2D picture is these discs have sort of a hologram effect when looking at them and varying the angle of viewing. A LS capable burner can be had for 50-100 bucks or so.

Hmmm I went to that site you linked (cdcovers) I picked a "cd" so I could try to DL and try out my lightscribe w/ it - but there is no no download link - or I should say - I did not see it - the picture of the cover came up though - I was trying to get Robots
-------------------------

WAIT a sec - I found some FAQ's - Isee what my choices are now.

Do you find one way or the other any better ? i.e. Just copying and pasting or utilizing the program that you can drag it in ? I know the program suppossedly lets you make some adjustments if you want.

Maybe I will try both ways and see if either will suit me.

Do you have to do any resizing or anything - I plan to try this on my lightscribe since I have it. I have not yet utilized its disks printing functions but i have a brand new box of Verbs just waiting to get used *L*

I may as well throw this article in the soup pot

Yamaha & Fujifilm tout LabelFlash to Taiwanese ODD makers
Posted by Seán Byrne on 30 October 2005 - 01:56 - Source: DigiTimes - daily IT news

Just a few weeks ago, FujiFilm and Yamaha both introduced LabelFlash technology, which works in a similar process to HP's LightScribe technology. Both work by using the drive's laser to write titles to the disc's label side of compatible DVD media. However, their new technology is different in that the label will be blue & silver and uses an organic dye 0.6mm below the surface, but the process is faster at between 5 and 20 minutes per disc depending on the quality required.

Now, in an aim to make the LabelFlash technology more widespread, Yamaha and FujiFilm are trying to convince Taiwanese optical disc drive makers to take on LabelFlash instead of the competing LightScribe technology. So far the main reason LightScribe capable DVD writers and media have done so poorly is due to the costs of the media, not to mention the drives. So, what Yamaha and FujiFilm have done is lowered their royalty charge, with some sources reckoning to be half that of LightScribe. If Lite-On takes on the technology (who currently uses LightScribe), they expect to be able to produce LabelFlash based DVD writers as soon as the first quarter of 2006.

Although the promotion of LabelFlash has lagged behind that of LightScribe, Yamaha and Fujifilm have attempted to attract Taiwanese ODD makers by lower royalty charges, the sources indicated. The royalty charge for LabelFlash may be about half of that for LightScribe, the sources noted.

For Taiwanese makers, the adoption of LabelFlash hinges on marketability, according to general manager Michael Gong of the Optical Disc Drive Business Unit of Lite-On. Lite-On will chose the technology that best suits customers? needs, but could volume produce LabelFlash DVD burners in the first quarter of 2006 at the soonest, if the company adopts the technology, Gong indicated.

As consumers often go for the cheapest drives, probably the best thing for Yamaha and FujiFilm to do would be to offer the technology without royalty to the drive makers and rely on consumers to purchase the media to collect the royalties from. For example, there are a wide range of printers on the market that are either sold with a very small profit margin or even subsidised to attract customers, but then rely on them having to buy the ink to make real business.

From what I can see, the biggest competitor to both LabelFlash and LightScribe technology has to be the printers that feature direct CD & DVD printing. Not only do these print in colour, but they also take up a fraction of the time. Of course the ink costs money, but from what I can see, the saving involved by not using ink using the drive?s laser is very likely to be outweighed by the higher cost of LightScribe/LabelFlash media as apposed to standard printable media. Then again, LightScribe & LabelFlash media is much more resisting to smudging or wearing off.

LabelFlash and LightScribe are compared to see if that are worth it..

@ireland
Thanks for that info. Any competition is bound to cause the Lightscribe discs to come down in price. I am hoping they will perfect full color lightscribe discs that are compatible with exsisting LS burners with maybe a firmware flash. Sometimes i have to play with the contrast and other settings to get a good grey scale image on a LS disc.

and the post qwik3r2 made might not have been directed at you, as your post is right on topic. qwik3r2 didn't post your name, and may not have even seen your post if they didn't refresh the thread recently. Just my 2 cents. No offense to anyone. :)

I have been using an Epson R200 printer with hub-printable dvdrs for about 2 years now and am VERY happy with the results. Very good quality discs can be purchased in lots of 100 for under $30 now and I buy my replacement ink cheaply online as well. 6 replacement cartridges for about $25 plus S&H from supermediastore.com (same place I buy my discs). I used to get the replacement ink from abcink.com but supermediastore is just a bit cheaper now and I'm already getting my discs there. I was so happy with my R200 that I bought another one about 8 months ago to have in my other computer room. The price of these printers has also dropped quite a bit. The last time I checked, they have been between $79-$99 but quite frequently have $50 rebates. When I bought my second one it only cost me $49 after rebate. Just keep watching the ads at your favorite retailers...

@ qwik3r2:

grow up and have a look at the topic heading , it doesnt say that you cant mention alternatives.

@ ireland
Yamaha & Fujifilm tout LabelFlash to Taiwanese ODD makers , i doubt that i would go that way yet as with anything new the prices are exorbitant.I may upgrade to the new canon Pixma IP 8000 but generally i pay $30 for 5 cartidges for my current IP 4000.On a test run i printed 357 discs before the ink ran out, as well as print to about 50 sheets of paper/gloss photos etc.
