Well put andmerr; this thread surely has been, a roller coaster of both, knowledge, and emotions.

I think?? I'm going to go down both roads, buy one of the R300 series inkjet printers, they're stand alone, so I can do my photo stuff, and the odd discs, without too much hassle.

And try out the Lite-on lightscribe, that'll upgrade my burner, and I can play/learn with a few discs' until the media prices come down.

BTW I'm on my best behavior, because someone said I was being rude to them recently??
Rude?? Had they said ironic, or even downright sarcastic, I wouldn't have minded. {edit..I've also been accused of: perverting the course, of the English language, and my favorite is; verbal thuggery.}

But bloody rude.. even the standard of insult, goes down at times lololol

gringle.

What the hell is going on here? We're here to make sure folks get the help they need - they don't need to see playground fights. I'm not pointing any fingers and I'm not going to lay any blame but geez folks, did this really need to get to this point?

Sorry i've been away, i know how much you all missed me. And in response to the comment about me being "scared off", yes you were right, i was scared off from my job to vacation. So sorry. What i find ultimately ironic is how everyone blamed ME for being the instigater, when im not even here and you people are fighting over bull! Give it a rest, its really starting ot become pathetic. I don't care anymore, you can keep arguing if it makes you feel better, makes you feel more intelligent, makes you feel like you accomplished something by putting someone else down, wasting YOUR own time making chapter sized posts about not liking me. Point out what you think i i did wrong allll you want, I get along with people just fine in my work place, just do me a favor and find someone else to bother. You people talk about respect and manors and this and that, well why not turn the table around and look at yourselves, verbally attacking someone post after post to get a point across that i shouldn't have mouthed off to the "GODS" of this thread? GIVE ME A BREAK.

no problem Neph, i'll do the finger pointing. the sad thing is i dont even have to because the parties involved know who they are. All i really have to say is "STOP IT!!" it dont matter who's rank is what, senior member dont mean crap around here anymore, since all you have to do is post a bunch and you can make senior member in no time flat. all of you that are bickering back and forth like little girls, get over yourselves. this forum is not a popularity contest, and to act like you're in one only discredits your standings with the very people you're trying to help. So here we have another very valuable thread that is about to be closed due to some childish "my dick is bigger than yours" bullshit! if you kids cant get along you're going to have to gather your toys and leave the playground.

Let me do some research and find the Nero lightscribe program before this thread gets shut down.
My LG burner came with a Nero express copy that had the LS part as shown in my post. I think there may be a way to DL it from Nero, not sure will have to check. The LG has a program called multimedia center or something like that, and it has a button for Nero that pulls up the one shown. I know it came with the LG drive (i got it for around 80 bucks at BB). I will PM you if thread gets closed due to playground fight.

And just in an attempt to keep this usefull thread open, we should make it a personal requirement that you post something about Lightscribe or Disc Printing. If your post doesn't include that, and is nothing but a personal attack or defense against one, You are not helping this thread stay alive PM eachother and leave this as an information exchange for the rest of us. Really, if i want drama, i will go sit in front of the tube and vegg for a while. We all have egos, and pride, and could all contribute something usefull, if we just try to be civil while typing away. Please.. pretty please?? I am actually learning something in the good posts. The other posts make me wanna go do vodka shots, or light up a bob marley doobie.
Actually i am the leader of my planet in a galaxy far away and i outrank you all, but i am a space alien, and my rank doesn't mean anything here on earth. It doesn't matter what you look like, or what planet you came from, you are here at AD, and we all have to play by the rules, or suffer the consequences of our actions. Sorry, i have an urgent call on my space communicator.

See that rotating skull? You know what that means? Neph is here, and he's gonna do some thread killing if things don't straighten up real quick like. I have seen an entire thread with muliple page posts get completely removed just because of a flame war. There was some good info on disc burn speed, and now it is gone forever. No one can ever look at that thread and get usefull information. Don't make this one go away also. Your kicking sand in my food, and i don't like it. I even violated my own request by not talking about lightscribe, but i had to do this in an effort to straighten things up and get us all back on track. Whew,, i do need to spark one up!

Here is what i am finding at Nero on lightscibe.
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/search.php
now let me check some of those programs listed..
This one say download lightscribe host software.. i think we're getting close:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/System_Requirement_Updates.html
but this part is where i think your problem lies:
Quote:
Software
You must have Nero 6.6.0.8 or a later installed.
You must also have the LightScribe Host Software installed (see below).
i think you never got the host software in the first place, and this looks like an update. Maybe you could e-mail Nero support?

also look at this:
Quote:
Hardware
LightScribe capable drive is required for Nero to enable the LightScribe feature. If this is not installed, Nero will automatically hide the LightScribe feature.
it's there, just hidden. There must be a way to turn it on and i am sure Nero can tell you how, or point you to the correct program.

oooh, i just thought of something. Maybe you need to do a complete un-install of Nero and registry clean they have the Nero registry clean tool at above listed site also, then re-install Nero (remember to write down your serial number before u do this) and it should see your LS capable drive, and install the LS part of Nero.. Try that, and post back if it works or not. See,,, herbal medicine works! We be Jamin... Thanks Bob Marley.

This partially answers the question about color:
Quote:
TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS ABOUT COLOR.

As our good friend ireland has already posted, sea his post on page 1, 60% of the way down the page - much good info there. ~> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/241802
HP announced that full color discs will be available in 2006. Be patient my little "Chick-a-dees" ~ The ?good stuff? is on it?s way.
But that is about background disc color. I look at the post, (read it before, but re read it per ScubaPete's suggestion to someone else (hey just about everything scubapete suggests ill do, except hand over cash),
Quote:
With the new LightScribe Media Version 1.2 coating technology, the same precise, silkscreen-quality black text and graphics labels available on gold-background discs can be burned onto the label-side of LightScribe-enabled CDs in stunning, new jewel-toned background colors. LightScribe will exhibit the new color-background CDs
With LightScribe color-background CDs, consumers can add more individuality, creativity and flair to their customized CD labels. The five new CD background colors -- red, orange, yellow, blue and green -- are rich and saturated. The development of LightScribe?s color-background CDs was possible through the new LightScribe Media Version 1.2 coating technology. The color-background CDs will have labeling speeds and enhanced image contrast comparable to those of the current gold-background discs.
so it looks like the background color will change, and the time to print them, but you still wont be able to get one to look like an ink jet color print.. So these "new" LS discs will just have a different color than gold, with other improvements. I think they are going to have to invent some kind of LS dye that can do the 3 primary colors, and then you could get a color image. Hey, you could make your own UK type of Red Disc... :)

also, look at who's going to make them:
Quote:
In support of the LightScribe color-background CDs launch, CMC Magnetics Corporation, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, and Moser Baer India will be among the initial media manufacturers to produce the discs.
the one in the middle is the only one listed i would trust.. the one in the middle. use the force luke, choose the light.. its the one in the middle..

Wow - alot has happened in a short amount of time ...

MAXBURn - you are on the move!!!! I am going to pdf this page real quick so I can take some time to look into the info you have graciously provided for me - The 1st thing I am going to check out is that HOSTING issue - from what you have written and what I have seen with my program, I think they may be the first way for me to go - in hopes that it will correct my solution.

the funny thing is - I did not KNOW I was missing something until you added that earlier post *L* So thanx for that also.

----- Oh yeah - when I went to check my Nero yesterday - I saw that it had been updated again to 6.6.0.18 - I had 6.6.0.16 - but according to your info - I still should have had the merging between the lightscribe writer and Nero program ....

So let me go check out the info you provided ... I will get back to you about my success or lack-there-of ...

Hey andmerr (hows it going?) - Are you having the same problem I am -

The First Ever LightScribe Publishing Tower
Multiple Simultaneous DVD/CD Labeling

The Aleratec 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS Records,
Duplicates and Labels up to 4 DVDs/CDs

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov. 21, 2005 -- Alera Technologies, Inc., developer and manufacturer of Aleratec advanced USB, DVD/CD duplicating, recording, and digital imaging solutions announced today another industry first, the 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS(tm), only from Aleratec. The Publishing Tower supports up to 4 simultaneous DVD/CD Copies, Recordings, or produces up to 4 Silk Screen Quality
LightScribe labeled discs. The 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS is a DVD/CD duplicator with LightScribe technology that simultaneously Laser burns custom labels directly on DVD/CD discs making it the first LightScribe desktop production disc publishing system. You can create your own custom labels, with text and graphics, using the unique Aleratec Disc Publishing Software Suite, powered by Droppix, included FREE! with purchase.

"Detailed observation of the Prosumer disc publishing scenario, makes us certain we have developed a breakthrough solution that fills a large void between expensive and cumbersome robotic equipment and writing on the back of discs with a marker. Putting this in perspective, the potential for the 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS is awesome," stated Perry Solomon, President and CEO. "The 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS with the Aleratec Disc Publishing Software Suite developed by Droppix, can duplicate 4 discs simultaneously or label 4 discs simultaneously, a significant advancement in the application of LightScribe Technology, and it's only from Aleratec. Per disc production time is dramatically
reduced and there is no printer required, eliminating the need for far more expensive robotic systems. You can even mix copying discs and burning labels at the same time which makes it perfect for one off jobs where the content and the label of each disc is different."

LightScribe technology is an integrated system that combines LightScribe enabled DVD/CD recorders with specially coated media and the powerful Aleratec Disc Publishing Software Suite powered by Droppix, to produce precise, laser-etched, silkscreen quality labels with superior sharpness and clarity. The Droppix powered Aleratec Disc Publishing Software Suite, includes: the special Aleratec Droppix Label Maker, which produces up to 4 simultaneous LightScribe Disc Labels, right from your desktop, no printer required, and it's only from Aleratec; Droppix Recorder for Towers, which produces up to 4 simultaneous disc copies, recordings or creations and Droppix Management Console, which monitors your publishing process. "Sharing the vision of an elegant and simple DVD/CD publishing solutionfor users with no alternative other than complex robots and printers,we are proud to have developed the special multiple recorder version of Droppix Label Maker exclusively for Aleratec," stated Robert Juzyna,President and CEO of Droppix SARL. "We believe the unique 1:4 DVD/CDTower Publisher LS is an excellent example of the perfect fit betweenLightScribe-enabled Droppix Software and Aleratec DVD/CD recording andduplicating technology."

The 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS (Aleratec Part No. 260150, Ingram Micro SKU No. H71760), is the only LightScribe DVD/CD Production Publisher and it is powered by Droppix. The 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS is a remarkable value, with a low Estimated Street Price of $999 The low ESP of $999 makes the 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS the lowest total cost of ownership of the disc publishing systems making it ideal for Prosumer, Corporate, Government and Education applications. Until now the equipment available to copy discs and label them required making a substantial investment in a machine that is only by a stretch of the imagination "desktop". More than one person is required to move some of these machines so to get copies you have to go to the machine rather than having the machine at your desk where the work is. The 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS, is a package that is truly desktop with only a 7 x 15 inch footprint and weighing about 20 pounds.

About Aleratec

On September 9,2005 GenChoas had a post which should take care of host software problems. I'm not sure how to attach it to this post so didn't try. I followed his outline and have had no problems. Speed is slow, but if you read at lightscribe.com an enhancement is coming out with current
burners able to update to take advantage of it.This info was also in GenChoas post. Hope this helps somebody.

again, I missed out (time-wise) BUT knowing me, you'all know I can't be completely silent ~

also, I'm not afraid to name names ~ Guys, you all got way, way out of hand and you know it !

@qwik3r2,

SIT ! ! STAY ! !

You're not involved in this argument and no one much cares about your opinion about it.

@Matt72 & gwendolin,

I cannot believe what I just read ! There was no call for any of that from either of you.

In an effort to balance this out, I would like to plead with BOTH of you return to your individual posts and edit out all of your remarks to each other. The thread didn't need a Flame war ~ Besides, it didn't look very good on either of you. Sooo, Dust yourselves off, Clean yourselves up and take a second to edit your posts ~ PLEASE, . . . Thank you both :)

@MaxBurn,
Quote:

bad MaxBurn, bad MaxBurn, you just ruined ScubaPete's Christmas fund (Lol) there will be no happiness in the ScubaPete household, de MaxBurn money faucet has done been turned off :(

On an up note, I did a bit "O" sspeedo reading and missed the part that said "background". Thanks for the re-print. Still, I was the first that said I thought that the LightScribe were way, kweel even in the gold screen print they currently have. Adding more background colors would be cooler than a snowball down the back of your pants in de wintertime . . . . Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (Lord did that feel goooood :)

Hey ireland,

I know you only report the news BUT it would be a cold day in Grand Cayman (a small group of islands just South of Cuba) before de old guy would ever have the pieces of "8" to afford a 1:4 DVD/CD Tower Publisher LS. Though it's nice to know it's out there, I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with my BenQ.

@qwik3r2,

At least you have another option to consider ~ again, it could never, ever produce a label in 25 seconds BUT it can do 4 at one time, should you ever need to label your discs in bulk.
