julie1338,
Welcome to the forum.
Below is a guide that one of our members has done. The guide is for using DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink. It should get you going. I really think you somehow did not bring the necessary files over and the guides should help.

This is another possible guide, out of the list in the Guides section. I like it better because it doesn't require DVD Decrypter, which is a powerful tool but sometimes seems to be an unnecessary complication.

when it's encoding, in the example it says decryption status: not encrypted. however when it's encoding for me it doesn't say that. it says CE:D2:48:C3:FD. Is that the problem? i followed everything like it said

No, not an issue. All that means is that in the guide, DVD Decrypter was copying information that wasn't encoded. In your case, DVD Decrypter encountered encoded video, came up with a key and copied the information all the same. Just a difference of the source of the information.

ok i burned it again and it definately has more on the dvd now, but it's damaged to where it won't play. The previews are fine and the menu is fine, but when it comes to the movie, it wont play because it's damaged. Any suggestions? Is there any way i can somehow just burn the actual movie and not all the extras and previews?

You're going to have to descibe "damaged" a little more. After you burned the movie to a DVD, everything goes alright except for the main movie?
And yes, you can re-author the DVD so that all you copy is the main movie. After you open and analyze the disc, there will be a pair of options at the top of DVD Shrink: "Full Disc", or "Re-Author". Select, obviously, re-author. From there you can select certain parts of the movie. Be warned, that menu functionality is disabled when using the re-author function, so you can't have working menus like you would if you just backed-up the entire DVD.

by "damaged" i mean that for instance before the movie started to play some words came up on the screen and it kept playing it over and over instead of moving on to the movie. The movie was also skipping quite a bit to where the picture looked jumbled. when i played the movie in my computer however, it wasn't quite as bad.

julie1338,
What is the brand of the blank DVD's you used and at what speed did you burn the disks at. DownLoad DVDinfoPro ( find it at the bottom ) and then do a CRC Test on the burned disk to see how many errors you have on the disk. Post back how many errors are present

Car.Mike, I have a feeling that her errors are encoding errors, not burning errors. I'd be more curious about what her computer specs are.

dvd shrink? , it's a waste of time, use CloneDVD and AnyDVD or dvdIdlePro-you will be amazed at the simplicity, quality and speed of the backup and ripping process. Why does everyone keep using an outdated and no longer supported proggy. Try using these proggs, you won't make it the full trial period without making the purchase, I promise.

dvdsndict ,
It could be the computer but on skipping when you play the disk that points to Media. Either way I still want her to D/L DvdinfoPro and tell me how many error ther are on the disk. Her burner could be going bad. It could also be her system resources are low and they need to be upgraded

julie1338,
Please list your system Specs;
Cpu
Ram
Burner( name and model #) and is it an external or internal burner
Blank Media used
Tower or Latop computer

jamram66,
You have some good ideas but some people do not want to spend $$ to get those programs. The only one of the programs you recommended I would use is AnyDVD. You want Quality then D/L DVDRebuilder . Cheaper and way better than CloneDVD you recommed. But to each their own

jamram66, either you are being paid to support those products, both of which I notice are made by the same company, Slysoft, or you have very low standards when it comes to dvd ripping.

CloneDVD does not allow you to compress little-used files to free up space for the main movie. It does allow you to remove files, but without a preview pane, you don't know what you're removing! It takes three times as long as DVDShrink to encode it onto your computer, and then the output is barely comparable to a compressed AVI file.

I'm watching a CloneDVD version of a movie right now. It is covered in artefacts, and i can see the compression level varying every few seconds, making the picture look like it's going in and out of focus. DVDShrink is clearly superior.

wow, busy subject here. My points for using clone over shrink are geared towards people who for whatever reason have so much trouble with shrink, so many steps, my dad uses shrink w/o any problems, loves it. Some people have a lot of trouble with it, I am simply too lazy and don't have a lot of time, so for me, I just have better luck w/clone. I have viewed both shrink and clone movies and as far as my work goes, not a recognizable difference. I don't do too much shrinking anyway. If it's longer than 145 min I like it full copy over 2 discs or usually if I do shrink I like to go no lower than a 70 to 80% quality. All in all though, I use about 3 or 4 different progs and decryptors for my movies, I like having alternatives.
And by the way, is anyone using the 64-bit systems w/ripping/copying s/w and is it a noticeable difference in time saving, justifed for spending the $ or should we wait till the price is lower?
Thanks all.

Oh wow, completely misread the question. No, it can't. Try converting it to a DivX AVI and then splitting that up into multiple CD-Rs. There's a guide in the Guides section for it.

paderickm,

Welcome to the forum. Shrink can not compress for CD's. At the very top of the page you will see Guides. Click on it and go 1/2 way down the next page to VCD and SVCD. There you will see what you are looking for. You can then use Nero to burn the output
