Yah, I replaced the whole thing with the files from the new disk. I'll have to try on a different xbox I guess. I don't know why it wouldn't work. Thanks for helping me out Skwyrl!

Connect your xbox to your computer through an Ethernet hub or router (plug your computer and xbox into the same hub)

Use dvd 2 xbox to copy all the Halo 2 files to your computer (your halo disk must be in the drive but not loaded, change this option in the system settings, set auto load games to NO)

Now copy the halo 2 files on your computer onto your xbox by FTP (when your xbox is in the modded dashboard go into Internet Explorer and type in ftp://xbox:xbox@YOUR XBOX?S IP ADDRESS. If you don?t know your xbox?s IP address go to system settings on your xbox and the second thing there says IP. That?s your xbox?s IP address. The xbox:xbox is the username and password default for the xbox. If it doesn?t work just check the system settings and confirm the password.) then find the E drive, make a Halo 2 folder and drag all the files into there (try not putting in the campaign maps just yet because those take up a lot of space, if you have extra space after this you can try putting them in).

Now go to your xbox and find some kind of file browser, go to the folder that you saved the Halo 2 files and click on default.xbe. This should run Halo 2 right from the hard drive.

Now on your computer make copies of all the halo 2 maps and then with dot halo you can open them and mod them.

Go back to the modded dashboard and FTP again, find the map you want to mod on your xbox and replace it with the modded (and signed) map that you modded in dot halo. (I use the program ch2r to sign my maps, I think you can do it in dot halo but I?m too lazy to figure out how =P)

now when you play Halo 2 from your hard drive that map will be modded.

If there is anything that I left out or you don?t understand just let me know and I (or someone else here at afterdawn) will try to help you.

HAPPY MODDING!

In your system settings one thing says FTP, make sure it says on or enabled, also make sure in the system settings that the username and password is xbox and xbox. Try that and let me know if you still have any problems.

To shadow84: I'm sorry i dont know what to do :( mabee try downloading ws-FTP and see if that works.

To donkey26:
Oops, sorry, xbox ripper is what i meant, go to http://xboxripper.no-ip.com/xboxripper/ and click on the download tab, I think the last download works best. You use this program to copy the whole disk that's in your xbox dvd drive to your computer hard drive. Then you can copy the game to your hard drive and run it from there (and replace the old maps with modded maps).

Good luck everyone!

Yup..cute FTP works as well, or if you want to spend a lot of time even windows itself can transfer files.. I haven't found an FTP applicxation yet that can't shift files back and forth to an xbox, flash FXP being about the pickiest.

I'm a little puzzled why you need to put files onto your pc and then FTP them back onto the xbox.. dvd2xbox comes with ALL the autoinstallers and patches games for playing from the HDD.. any map mods and the like can be done across the network just as easily as shifting the whole lot twice.. just my 2c

I just reccomended that because if you dont have enough space on your E drive dvd2xbox will try to copy everything (including the campaign maps) to your hard drive and then it wont work, with xbox ripper you can put Halo 2 on without the campaign maps if you are low on space. Thats all, but both work fine!

Also janrocks, can you help me? when i click on Halo 2 default.xbe from the hard drive i get a dirty disk error and i cant run the game. I used xbox ripper because I only had 3GB of space. You mentioned something about a patch, is that mabee why i cant get it to run?

Thanks!

@ modr2b.. DDE, sounds like a non-patched xbe file, or something wrong with the other files.. If you have modded maps and such it's likely one has been named wrong, or there is a cutscene missing or something like it. Theres a little trick with modded halo versions that works quite well.. I make an xiso from the files with cloneXB and then rip it with xtract xiso, then as clonexb removes media checks it's good to FTP the folder back. Also to save size it's sometimes a good idea with mods to use qwix to make the xiso, and crosslink identical files. Useful??

@shadow84

XBOX NETWORK SETUP GUIDE

1. disable any firewalls (or set them to ALLOW when trying to connect to your xbox).

2. Disable the LAN connection and connect the crossover cable to pc and xbox.

3. Right click the LAN connection (under START/CONTROL PANEL/NETWORK CONNECTIONS), click "properties", under the "general" tab, go down the list, click on "Internet protocol (TCP/IP)" then click properties again. Use the following settings;-
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: (leave blank)

Click OK.

4. On your desktop, you need to see an icon labelled "My Network Places" (If its not there, right click on your desktop, click "properties", click "desktop" tab, then click "customize Desktop...", tick the box at the top for "My network places" and click OK, and again OK to exit display properties).
Right click on "My Network Places" and select "add new network place", then click the writing which says "sign up for online storage or connect to a network server", a wizard thing pops up, click NEXT, the next screen brings up a list of service providers, highlight the 1 which says "Choose another network location........." then click NEXT, in the space type this
Quote:
ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.1.200
click NEXT, the next page is the name, your choice, I just put XBOX on mine, click NEXT, then untick the box (open this..... when finished", click FINISH

NOTE: ALL THE SETTINGS ABOVE ARE ASSUMING THEY ARE LEFT AS DEFAULT ON EVOX, IF YOU CHANGED THEM PUT THE PASSWORD BACK TO "XBOX" AND THE IP BACK TO 192.168.1.200 OR THESE SETTINGS WONT WORK!!!

5. On xbox, goto settings and make sure it says "use static IP" YES.

in network settings put..
IP 192.168.1.200
SUB 255.255.255.0
DEFAULT 192.168.1.1

6. Reboot your xbox, on evox dash it should display the IP as 192.168.1.200 (if it does not take note of step 5. and make sure the IP is set to this).

7. Re-Enable the LAN on your pc, a bubble pops up "LAN Connection 100.0 Mbps ..."

8. Finally, double click the "My Network Places" icon on your desktop and open the folder named XBOX (or whatever you specified in step 4.) and it should show you your xbox hard drive (C,E,F,X,Y,Z and D is the DVD-Rom).

thanks to xboxd00d over at xboxscene for the info, help and knowledge..(edited to make it work with ALL releases of XP by me)....

Yup...that's the guide.. don't waste time with FlashFXP which is really picky..for best results use ws-FTP-pro or cuteFTP..or just explorer as listed above. You have to go through that anyway to get a connection, otherwise no FTP apps will talk to network devices. you don't need to actually need to be able to move files with winblows, but you do need a working connection.

ok i was wondering, is there anyway to add those maps from the multiplayer map pack onto the hard drive so that they would show up in halo 2 without me having to borrow the disc or connecting to xbox live in order to download the.
Is there a way to add maps i guess i'm saying, i think you can only do it if you've got the custom edition pc version of halo, but i'm just wondering if theres a way to get them onto my xbox.
Cause i've got a modded xbox, and an unmodded 360, and i like to play system link halo 2, and on the 360, i can have a free month of gold when i signed up for a gamer tag on the 360 which let me get the new maps for halo2, but i can't sign in with that account on the xbox, so i can't play those new maps on the xbox while doing system link.
Anyway, i hope i've explain enough to be able to let you know exactly what i'm trying to do, and if someone else has already said how to do this, tell me what page they answered it on. Thanks a whole bunch.

Well if you can mod your xbox 360 you can do it, if you can FTP to your 360 you can probably copy all the Multiplayer Map Pack files from there to the same place in your original xbox. I can tell you what folders the files are stored in if you can FTP to your xbox 360 somehow. I dont know offhand what they are but I'll look if the information will be of any use to you.

janrocks, all I did was use xbox ripper and then copied the whole disc to the xbox (without any campaign maps) and I didn?t put in any modded stuff at all because I just wanted to get Halo 2 definitely running from the hard drive, which it doesn?t, it doesn?t even load anything, just gives me the disk error. Also none of the stuff you said I have seen before so it will probably be of help, unfortunately I have absolutely no clue what xiso, cloneXB, xtract xiso and qwix are so if you could try explaining that with some more simpler words and maybe give me links to where I can find those things that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for helping me!

pg: Even though you havnt modded your xbox, you might still be able to get onto the harddisk. Its worth a try. username and password are both xbox to my knowledge, but can anyone verify that for a 360? anyway, if you get onto your 360 from your computer using FTP, then you will definately be able to get the maps off of it onto your computer. It would just be a case of putting them onto your other xbox from your computer then. Im not sure the actual directory your new maps are in, becasue im too lazy and have revision to do (damn exams) but there arent too many directories on your xbox, so just systematically search each one, thats how i did it :) If you can get onto your xbox360, then tell me. If you cant, i cant really help you :O

ok im a little confused so i am going to ask a newbish question.

when you said crossover cable conect?

did you mean conect the xbox directilly to the comp. using a cat 5

or can i hook the xbox to a router that is only connected to the xbox to the comp.

You need a special kind of cable called a crossover cable that lets you plug your xbox into your computer via ethernet, as in the cable goes stright from your xbox's ethernet port to your computers. DO NOT connect your xbox directly to your computer with a normal ethernet cable, you need a crossover cable cuz you will probably fry something or confuze something or make something unhappy or it will just not work at all! Also do not use a crossover cable with a router, same bad things will happen, the router does the crossing over itself. I personally like using a router so you dont have to keep unplugging your internet from your computer. Anyhow, both things do exactly the same thing. To hook it up with a router just plug your xbox into one port and your computer into the other (make sure you don't use the uplink port though) and you should be able to FTP. If you have a router but no crossover cable, use the router, if you have a crossover cable or neither of the two things then buy a crossover cable, it'll probably be cheaper than a router. Any more questions and I'll be glad to help.
