hi, what's the burning program you used ?.

in the meantime, here's what i recently discovered/posted re Datawrite Titanium DVD-R (snippet from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/244549) -
Quote:
just did a quick search as to which disc manufacturers Datawrite use for their Titanium discs - hmmm, if it's 8x -R discs you're using, the disc manufacturer could well be CMC Magnetics - if so, oh dear!.

edit re the 8x -R discs - just checked some more and (oh dear) these come in 3 differing quality in disc manufacturers - CMC MAG or MCC02RG20 or TTG02 - in my opinion the only decent ones there are the MCC ones. The problem is i bet there's no way to tell which ones are which, simply from looking at the packaging ie one day you might buy a tub of these and get MCC-manufactured disc (top stuff) and another day you might pick up an identical tub and they'd be CMC-manufactured (atrocious).

if they're 16x -R discs the quality could well be a mixed bag depending on if you have MCC03RG20 discs (top discs) or TTH02 discs (hmmm i don't believe they're much good at all, certainly no comparison to MCC discs)

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

These are the last three logs, first one attempted straight from original DVD to new, second was from decrypted files to new, and the third is an attempt at a film that has worked before.

thanks for your help

- you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

- according to this paragraph your ATAPI drivers aren't loaded correctly (they're not listed here. i suspect those CMC Mag discs have something to do with that). fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

Looks like 3 successful burns to me.

Definitely reduce the backup target for those dreaded cmags.

How are you viewing those backups when you get a black screen with only audio?
Standalone player: Check the remote, maybe it's set on for visually impaired?

Try playing one of those backups on the pc using the sony dru 700a.See it if also gives you a black screen.

the whole point of dire media such as this is 3 successful burns does not mean 3 or 30 more successful/usable burns. do what you need to in order to use up the last of those Cmags but don't buy any more or you'll be back here again :)

thanks for all your help.

something very very very peculiar happened. i burnt those three as you know, black screen only. they've been sitting in the spindle for a couple of days now and i tried one - fine. tried the others - fine. so i decided to burn a new one. did that, tried it immediately - black screen. tried it today - fine. wierd.
do dvds need time to cool or set?
i didn't think so.

anyway all seems good.
thanks muchly

'fraid i don't do/tolerate coasters/wasted money. this is the kind of thing you'll come to expect using subpar media. we've done the logfile analysis, next logical step is to try better media, then problem should go away hopefully..

Myself,no.I play them right out of the drive-using my stand alone player.
I've heard of other members drives really heating them up so they have to allow them to cool down.
