I have come across that firmware version quite a few times. It's an I/O magic 16x. I/O magic outsources their drives to many different manufacturers like BTC/Benq/and Empa that I know of.

Here's a thread for the auto update program:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/226388

I have 2 I/O magic 16x's. One is a benq 1620 which is a phenomenal burner, but the other is an EMPA from Middle east Fizo and was a crappy burner. Even booktyping the empa drive, the dash format way outperformed its dash backups by a landslide.Still not even close the the benq I/O magic 16x drive. This is one brand name to avoid because of all their outsourcing and confusion like that generic code in your burn log.

HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC/LG 8163B/Modded Wii/Epson-R300 and Ty Watershields!!!

Nero update:
Nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://ww2.Nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

Set target size in Shrink:
1. go to EDIT> go to Preferences and there is set target size

Set Speed of Burn:
1. If I am not mistaken got to Backup> file I/O> and you will see it about 1/2 the way down

I/O Magic Burner is OK but not great.

I'll check the thread tomorrow as it is late here

@ozzymary

your are burning at 8x and your dvdrs are 8x.so first off your are burning too fast for dvd movies to begin with.4x is the max i would burn at but most of the times i burn at 1x or 2x max.second your are burning at the max speed the disc are rated for so you would want to back off the max rate especially for streaming video.and if you burn some more movies use your DVD-R discs so you can test burn them and dont waste discs until you have the problem solved.i dont think you can test burn DVD+R or at least i have never been able to test burn them.

i compress movies to 4000mb and select the option to take out layer breaks in DVD Shrink settings.this greatly increases the playability and burn success of the movie.the quality isnt reduced to any noticeable level by compressing to 4000mb.

If it was like my auto update program on my Empa drive I/O magic,it's just like downloading a normal program. You can save file and open later,or open right away. I found that Empa auto firmware download a little annoying.I am not exactly sure about that auto update for your burner.

There may be a program through that site that may offer booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom.That gives you another option when it comes to finding pesky stand alones that don't recognize your dash or plus backups. You may want to research all the options for your drive.

ozzymary:Glad you see you are set!!

Be cautious on your teons and staples brand name. Any playback issues whatsoever, try to decrease your backup target and burn speed.

Keep an eye on staples weekly sales, their sony and fujis keep getting lower and lower on prices.

Yea its my CPU usage that goes to 100% everytime I use Shrink to copy the files to my harddrive. My memory is fine. Now Shrink says "burn failed, but files were successfully encoded to your drive." I can burn a C.D. with no problem, but my PC refuses to burn a DVD. I've tried everything! Different progams, media, altering preferences, etc. I agree that I should fix this Burner before getting a new one, but it is getting expensive wasting blank dvd's over and over. I'll give it a good cleaning once more, but what else copuld've happened over night? I posted my Nero log, were there any problems that stuck out?

I cleaned my PC and Shrink is now running properly not taking up using 100% CPU usage. It ran betwween 5%-15% this time, but when I tried to burn Nero spit the DVD out and saide "unrecoverable error"
I don't run in ISO mode, I use the exact same guide listed on the site. How to burn a pre-authored dvd with Nero. I click on DVD video everytime. It's crazy, I have atleast 100 backups and now can't make 1.

I forgot to ask about firmware. I went to HP.com and checked to update my burner, but it said there was no new needed firmware. I have a HP 300i, could it be the firmware? Like I said before I can burn CD'S no problem.

You are still getting the same error codes

Good thing is the firmware is up to date

What is the name of the movie you you are trying to copy?

What guide are you using to follow so that you can copy the movie? We really need to know the steps you are doing as I think that is where the problem is. Maybe the guide is wrong but we still need to know

ozztman,
You can set write speed in Shrink by going to backup> Burn settings then set your speed there. Are you using Recode to do the movies or Shrink?
