I've been visiting this site for the better part of a year and until now have answered my questions without having to start a new thread. This is a great forum. I recetnly built a new system, kind of low budget, and have been burning DVDs without a hitch. I recently loaded a fairly simple game on it for my son to play and it crashed my operating system. I immediately uninstalled it and since have had problems copying DVDs. It does fine during the DVD Decrypter process, but will occasionally shut the computer down and reboot during the Shrink process. During the reboot, before XP starts,it tells me that there was an error in a Fat32 file. I have no idea what this means. It sometimes happens during the burning process. The only other unusual message I received was in the Decryptor log. It says that my burning device does not support files Greater than 4gb. The system has an AMD XP 2900 (400 fsb), an 80gb HD,512mb of pc3200 DDR 400MHz CL3 memory which I recently installed,& a Benq 1620 burner. I also reinstalled Shrink, Decrypter, & Nero that came with another burner(not ultra edition). My question is do ya'll think my computer(cpu) is overheating or is maybe something wrong with my burner?

rum69,
Welcome to the forum. You might be having 2 problems. You need if not done convert the HD from Fat32 to NTFS. It really is simple and the instructions are below. I also want you to Download a free Registry Cleaner ( google for " Free Registry Cleaner" ) and clean the registry of any conflicts as that will also cause a system conflicts and shut the computer off.
If it is shutting down during the transcoding phase of Shrink then yes that might be heat. Take the side off and verify all of the fans are working and also the CPU fan is also working. You might need to add a fan. Also while you have it open blow out the computer w/ compressed air.

Car.Mike,
I followed your instructions and then burned a DVD without a problem. The only thing that I changed was the video view during the DVD Shrink process (to maybe avoid overheating).I think my problem is solved. Thank you. Can you tell me what the DVD Decrypyer log about my burner not supporting files over 4 gig meant?

Win 98 is based on the FAT 32 filesystem (and a lot of ppl still use this even under Win XP) which cannot handle files larger than 4 GB and shrinked movies usually are at about 4.7 GB, DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter splits the backup files on such systems into a multipart or segmented ISO which consists of several 1 GB files with an enumerated extension like .i01, .i02 and an .mds file of a few bytes which holds info on the parts.

O.K. So that explains why I didn't see it in the log after I converted from Fat32 to NTFS. Thanks!!!
